Top MLB Betting Odds & Picks for Friday, April 22 (2022)

Apr 22, 2022 - 2:10 PM

We had a profitable day with our best bets yesterday, even with a smaller slate of games. With a new weekend series on the horizon for each team, things will get exciting over the weekend.

Here are my top three bets for Friday’s slate of games in the MLB for April 22:

CTAs

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Cincinnati Reds Under 4.5 F5 Total (-110)
The Cincinnati Reds will send out Hunter Greene, who has impressed in his first year on the mound. Greene has thrown at least five innings in each of his first two starts while allowing three or fewer runs. He’s also struck out at least six batters in each start.

Yes, the home run ball is getting to him, but once he minimizes that, Greene will be a dominant pitcher. He’ll take on a St. Louis Cardinals lineup that struggled against Miami during the week.

Steven Matz will get the call for the Cardinals. He struggled in his first start but dominated in his second start. Matz will hope the momentum carries over, and we will too. Matz will take on a Reds lineup with a .130 ISO and wOBA of .292 dating back to last season against lefties. Other than Brandon Drury and Kyle Farmer, it’s just an awful lineup with no consistency for the Reds.

Bet: Under 4.5 F5 (-110 at DraftKings)

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Diego Padres F5 Run Line (-.5, -125)
The Padres will send out Nick Martinez for his third start of the season. It’s been fun hearing about his story, knowing he pitched in Japan and the Olympics and now has another shot in the big leagues.

The MLB hasn’t treated him well in the past and isn’t treating him well this year either. He’s 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA and has allowed five runs in 10 innings of work. The walks were very high against the Braves, and he’s struggled analytically against both sides of the plate.

Meanwhile, Julio Urias will take the hill for the Dodgers. While he hasn’t been perfect either, Urias at least bounced back in his last start, holding the Reds to one hit in five innings. Back Urias over Martinez in this one.

Bet: Dodgers -.5 F5 (-125 at DraftKings)

Texas Rangers vs. Oakland Athletics Moneyline (-145)
Glenn Otto will take the hill for the Rangers for the first time this season. His career numbers are awful. He’s 0-3 with a 9.26 ERA, but that’s a bit deceiving.

Last year, Otto had an xFIP of 2.63 with 25.2% strikeouts, and 7.2% walks. He also earned 45.2% ground balls. Sure, he struggled against lefties, but there isn’t one batter to fear in the Oakland Athletics lineup.

Adam Oller is set to make another start in Oakland. He has a 5.99 xFIP with 20% strikeouts, and 20% walks in two starts this season. He’s been poor against righties and awful against lefties and will have to face a fierce Rangers lineup that might be figuring some things out offensively now. The offense has a .195 ISO and .330 wOBA against righties dating back to last year with just 21.7% strikeouts and over 10% walks.

Grab the Rangers to start a winning streak tonight.

Bet: Twins (-145 at DraftKings)
