Top MLB Betting Odds & Picks for Monday, June 20th (2022)

Jun 20, 2022 - 11:05 AM

After the New York Yankees lost a 10-9 thriller in their series finale against the Toronto Blue Jays, the longest active winning streak in Major League Baseball is now just three games shared by three teams, two of which are under .500 (Angels, Brewers, Rockies). In addition, the longest active losing streak is held by the Cincinnati Reds at four games. Thus, baseball has had a lot of parity in recent weeks, and it will be interesting to see if that trend continues this week.

With a limited nine-game MLB slate today, we have identified our two best plays, a runline play in an American League matchup and an over/under between two NL West division rivals.

Here are our best bets for Monday’s MLB action. (Odds courtesy of DraftKings)

Kansas City Royals vs. Los Angeles Angels RL

Not long ago, the Angels were mired in a season-long 14-game winning streak and were a season-low six games under .500. However, a trip to Seattle has helped them right the ship, as they are coming off back-to-back shutout wins and outscored the Mariners 11-2 over the last three games of the five-game series.

Also not long ago, Angels slugger Mike Trout was mired in a career-worst 0-for-26 slump. He now has hit five home runs in his last five games, and that home run total in the five-game series is tied for the most of any player in a series against the Mariners. Trout now faces Royals starting pitcher Kris Bubic (0-4, 8.36) for the first time in his career. Bubic has struggled with command of the strike zone, issuing 18 walks (to go along with 24 strikeouts), which is a big reason for his poor 1.89 WHIP.

Bubic is opposed by Noah Syndergaard (4-5, 3.53), who has lost back-to-back hard-luck starts, as he only allowed one run in each. However, run support should not be much of an issue against the struggling Bubic.

Bet: Los Angeles Angels -1.5 Runs (+100 at DraftKings)

Arizona Diamondbacks vs. San Diego Padres O/U

The Padres were potentially dealt a serious blow as slugger Manny Machado left yesterday’s game with a sprained ankle. It is yet to be determined how long he will be out, but San Diego’s offense will miss his .328 average, 12 home runs, and 46 RBIs, especially as they remain without Fernando Tatis Jr. as well.

With their offense not at full strength, the Padres will rely on Yu Darvish (6-3, 3.35), who has pitched to a 2.76 ERA over his previous seven starts. However, he has saved his best stuff for his last two starts, allowing one combined run in 15 innings with seven hits and a 13:0 K:BB ratio against the Mets and Cubs. Darvish also has a 1.35 ERA in five home starts this year, and we expect him to keep his team in a low-scoring game while San Diego’s offense takes time to adjust without its two-best hitters.

Bet: Diamondbacks-Padres UNDER 7 (+100 at DraftKings)
