Top MLB Betting Odds & Picks for Thursday, June 30th (2022)

Jun 30, 2022 - 10:02 AM

The parity in Major League Baseball has been tremendously recently. Entering today, just two teams (Yankees and Brewers) have winning streaks of at least four games, while only two others have losing streaks of at least three (Mets and Athletics). Will that parity continue through the weekend?

Here are our best bets for Thursday’s MLB action. (Odds courtesy of DraftKings)

Atlanta Braves vs. Philadelphia Phillies O/U

The over has cashed in four of the last six meetings between the Braves and Phillies, but with the way one of the starting pitchers in this matchup has pitched recently, runs should be at a premium. Philadelphia’s Aaron Nola (4-5, 2.98) has been one of the best pitchers in baseball over the last three weeks. In his previous four starts, he has gone seven innings twice and eight innings in the other two starts, all while pitching to a 0.90 ERA. He has shown impeccable command of the strike zone, with 45 strikeouts and just three walks in his last six starts, which is a big reason why he has a 0.83 WHIP in five June starts.

Nola’s momentum in June is a continuation of his final May start, which was an 8.1-inning masterpiece against Atlanta when he allowed just one earned run and tied a season-high with ten strikeouts.

Atlanta counters with Ian Anderson (6-4, 4.60), who has allowed just one home run in his last four starts. Anderson has held Philadelphia to a .227 BABIP and .170 ISO in his career and should take advantage of a Bryce Harper-less Phillies lineup.

Bet: Braves-Phillies UNDER 8.5 Runs (-120 at DraftKings)

New York Yankees vs. Houston Astros ML

Instead of the Yankees having a scheduled off day, they head to Houston for one game to take on the Astros, as their regularly scheduled off day was wiped out with the need to make up three games against their AL Central rivals due to the early season lockout. New York has endured a brutal schedule with 17 games in the last 17 days (13 of which were against teams with a winning record). And even though New York came out of that stretch with a 13-4 record, Houston proved to the rest of the American League that the Yankees are not as dominant of a favorite as they are made out to be after outplaying them for much of their four-game series.

The Yankees infamously went 16 innings in their recent series against the Astros without a hit, and if not for blowing two eighth-inning leads, the Astros would have swept the Yankees in four games. Houston was dealt a blow with an injury to Yordan Alvarez in yesterday’s game, but New York has to be running on fumes at this point, and we like for them to take advantage of a tired Yankees team. One cannot often get the Yankees at this low of odds, but do not fall for the bait, as there is not much separation between these two teams.

Bet: Houston Astros ML (+105 at DraftKings)
