MLB Same Game Parlay Odds & Picks for Friday, July 1 (2022)

Jul 1, 2022 - 1:37 PM

Let’s head into the weekend with some big matchups on Friday. All six teams featured today are playoff hopefuls, so grabbing every win is essential as the All-Star break looms. Two of these series are interdivisional matchups, and one is the first and second-place teams just a couple of games apart in the standings.

Tampa Bay Rays vs. Toronto Blue Jays

  • Leg 1: Rays ML (+114)
  • Leg 2: Under 9.5 (-122)
  • Leg 3: Matt Chapman to record 2+ total bases  (+110)

Kluber looks good in Rays’ uniform, as he’s come in and pitched well after starting the season on the IL. He’s allowed three runs or fewer in eight straight starts and 12 of 14 this season. Kluber has had an excellent command of pitches this year as his chase rate is in the 90th percentile and his walk rate is in the 97th, so he’s going to make you swing at those bad pitches.

Jose Berrios signed a big contract with the Blue Jays this past offseason, and he’s not living up to the deal. He’s been getting rocked all season and has a career worse in xERA, xSLG, xBA, and barrel percentage, as he’s in the fifth percentile or lower in each. He’s in his worst stretch of the season, allowing 14 earned in the last 6.2 innings (18.90 ERA) and seven home runs. The movement and velocity on his pitches haven’t changed this year; he can’t keep them off the heart of the plate.

The Rays’ offense needs a matchup like this to help get them off this recent losing streak. If they chase Berrios early, the Blue Jays bullpen has also been struggling with a 5.04 ERA in June. Tampa Bay will get back in the win column.

New York Yankees vs. Cleveland Guardians

  • Leg 1: Yankees -1.5 (-118)
  • Leg 2: Gerrit Cole under 7.5 strikeouts (-115)
  • Leg 3: Anthony Rizzo to record an RBI (+130)

The Yankees continue to roll as they head to Cleveland, having won four of their last and are on pace to be one of the best teams in baseball history.

Gerrit Cole will be on the mound, and he’s coming off an incredible June with an ERA of 2.73 and a 0.93 WHIP. To beat Cole, you would have to no-hit the Yankees, which is what happened in his last start. Cole is a great pitcher to back today as his chase rate is currently at a career-high 33.2%, with the Guardians being 21st at 29.7, and collectively the lineup is batting .192 with a 36.6 strikeout percentage.

Cleveland will counter with Aaron Civale, and he continues to struggle this season as he’s allowing careers worse hits per nine and has made it to the sixth inning just once in nine starts this season. He’s lost velocity and movement on most of his pitches from last season, and he’s been throwing his cutter way more, but batters went from hitting .190 against it last season to .315 this year.

The Yankees have the clear advantage in the pitching matchup, and Cole’s past success against the Guardians will give them a decisive win to start the series.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Diego Padres

  • Leg 1: Dodgers -1.5 (+122)
  • Leg 2: Under 7.5 (-115)
  • Leg 3: Blake Snell under 6.5 strikeouts  (-148)

The Dodgers picked up the first win of this series and have extended their lead in the division going into Friday. The Dodger faithful must be exciting as they’ll have Tony Gonsolin on the mound for this matchup. He’s one of the favorites for National League Cy Young at the moment, as he has the chance to be the first ten-game winner in the NL. His breaking pitches look like they weigh thousand pounds as they start right over the plate and fall, making it difficult to adjust.

The Padres will send up Blake Snell, who has been easily figured out and attacked throughout this season. He initially missed a month after a very early exit in his start of the season and has not been able to get on track as he’s 0-5 with a 5.60 ERA, and the team is 0-7 in his starts since returning from the IL. His lack of control has been puzzling as he’s allowing 4.8 walks per nine, one higher than his average from 2016-2020, and with the Dodgers having the second-most walks in the league this year, they should be getting a ton of free passes.

The clear backing should be on Los Angeles with the pitching matchup and should roll with a dominant win on the shoulder of Goslin.
