MLB Same Game Parlay Odds & Picks for Sunday, July 31 (2022)

Jul 31, 2022 - 1:10 PM

Let’s wrap up the weekend with what could be some fun games to watch. We have what could be a couple of good pitching targets as they have favorable matchups, but also we back one of the best pitchers in the game, continuing his dominance. Here are our MLB Same Game Parlay Odds & Picks for Sunday, July 31.

Chicago Cubs vs. San Fransisco Giants

  • Leg 1: Chicago Cubs ML (+158)
  • Leg 2: Under 7.5 (-118)
  • Leg 3: Under 0.5 runs in the first inning (-148)

It’s been a rough July for Carlos Rodon as he comes in today with a 4.80 ERA for the month and a 2.75 FIP. He has a great fastball that he can reach into the upper 90s, but he’s been burned by it recently by allowing three home runs in his previous two starts. Today could be an opportunity to get right as the Cubs have struggled against lefties this season. They enter this game in the bottom 10 in AVG, OBP, BABIP, and strikeout rate.

The Cubs will counter with Adrian Sampson, and he’s coming off his best start of the season by going seven innings and allowing two earned in the win. He isn’t an overpowering pitcher, but he’s been excellent at inducing weak contact. His average exit velocity is in the 85 percentile, the same as his hard hit percentage, and the barrel percentage is in the 80th.

I also like Sampson to have an effective game, as the Giants have struggled by only scoring three runs per game in their last ten. I’m taking this pitching matchup in a low-scoring outcome.

Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Atlanta Braves

  • Leg 1: Under 8 (-115)
  • Leg 2: Merril Kelly over 5.5 strikeouts (+128)
  • Leg 3: Max Fried over 5.5 strikeouts (-134)

The Braves continue to play well post all star break as they have a stronghold on the top Wild Card spot but are well within reach of winning the division.

They’ll send up Max Friend to help try to get the sweep, and he will put them in a good position. He’s been dominant throughout the season as he comes with second-best WAR amongst pitchers (4.3), along with a 2.73 ERA, and his eleventh win would keep him in the top three.

On the other side, Merrill Kelly is having a breakout season for the D-Backs. He struggled a little in May and June but regrouped in July, going 4-0 with 1.57 ERA and opposing batters hitting .175.  He could tame the power-hitting lineup of the Braves as he’s allowing an xSLG of .352, which is in the 70th percentile.

Cleveland Guardians vs. Tampa Bay Rays

  • Leg 1: Rays -1.5 (-115)
  • Leg 2: Over 6.5 (-120)
  • Leg 3: Shane McClanahan over 6.5 strikeouts (-138)
  • Leg 4: Amed Rosario to record a hit (-230)

You can make a case for Shane McClanahan being the best pitcher in baseball this season. He comes in today with the best ERA (1.76), WHIP (0.773), hits per nine (5.431), and third-highest WAR amongst pitchers (4.1). Although the Guardians have recently been doing well offensively, but no one has been able to figure out McClanahan.

The longtime reliever Bryan Shaw will make a second-career start, but he could be used as an opener. Shaw has recently struggled with a 6.17 ERA in his last nine appearances, and we shouldn’t see him for more than a couple of innings as the Guardians will try to piece this game together.
