The Halos took game one of the series last night thanks to a sac-fly in the top of the 10th from Taylor Ward. Jimmy Herget slammed the door in the bottom of the frame to help Los Angeles move to 45-61 on the year. These two teams are back at it today for a twin bill as the Angels go with Jaime Barria in the early game. The Mariners counter with George Kirby with the first pitch set for 4:10 p.m. ET from T-Mobile Park. 

Barria is set to make his 21st of the year this afternoon, but it will be his first start of 2022. The right-hander is 1-1 with a 2.55 ERA, and 0.96 WHIP over 53.0 innings pitched. Barria’s last three relief outings were all scoreless efforts spanning 9.0 innings. 

Kirby enters today’s contest at 2-3 with a 3.56 ERA and 1.19 WHIP over 14 starts in 2022. Most recently, the right-hander squared off against the Astros and went 4.0 innings, allowing a pair of earned runs on three hits and a walk. He struck out seven in the no-decision effort. 

Kirby threw against the Angles earlier this season, going 6.0 innings, and gave up just two runs. That included a scoreless first inning in the 4-1 loss. On the flip side, Barria hasn’t faced the M’s yet this season. However, the current roster is just 5-27 (.185) against him, with no home runs or triples. I don’t think the righty will work too deep into this game, so look for him to bring his best stuff early and keep a clean first inning.
