Top 5 MLB Player Props Monday, August 8 (2022)

Aug 8, 2022 - 1:45 PM

There may only be a handful of games on the slate this evening, but the player prop maker is plentiful. I’ve already done the heavy lifting for you, as here you’ll find my top five player props of the slate. So let’s bolster your card tonight with extra winners.

Chris Bassitt Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-150)

Cincinnati Reds vs. New York Mets 7:05 p.m. ET

The Reds sold at the deadline and lost star catcher Tyler Stephenson to injury again. Since both of those events, the Reds have climbed back into the top five in team strikeout rate. They’ll enter their series in New York with the fourth-highest strikeout rate. They’ll put that up against a red-hot Chris Bassitt, who’s gone over this total in 65% of his starts this year. That rate gives us implied odds of -185 that he will go over again. Against a free-swinging team like Cincinnati, the odds will only get higher until the first pitch.

Anibal Sanchez Under 16.5 Pitching Outs (-130)

Washington Nationals vs. Chicago Cubs 8:05 p.m. ET

Anibal Sanchez may have a decent matchup against the Cubs, but the oddsmakers are giving him way too much credit. The Cubs have multiple All-Stars in their lineup and are more than capable of knocking around Sanchez, who has a 7.65 ERA through four starts. On top of that, Sanchez has yet to go past the fifth inning this season. In fact, Sanchez has only had two starts go longer than five innings in the last two years. So these odds should be much higher.

Jose Suarez Over 1.5 Walks Allowed (+110)

Los Angeles Angels vs. Seattle Mariners 9:40 p.m. ET

Suarez has been relatively effective for the Angels at the back end of their rotation this season, but one issue that keeps flaring up is his command. He has walked at least two batters in nine of his 13 appearances. That gives us -225 odds that he will go over again. To juice those odds even further, the Mariners have the fourth-highest team walk rate in the majors.

Zac Gallen Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-160)

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Arizona Diamondbacks 9:40 p.m. ET

Arizona’s ace, Zac Gallen, gets a juicy matchup, as the Pirates and their second-highest strikeout rate in the majors make the cross-country trip. Overall, Gallen may not seem like a strikeout artist, but he averages 5.3 strikeouts per start, and given his matchup, we should see an above-average strikeout total.

Logan Gilbert Over 4.5 Strikeouts (-155)

New York Yankees vs. Seattle Mariners 10:10 p.m. ET

The Yankees’ lineup may be daunting, and they do not strike out all the often, but this total is far too low for Gilbert. Yes, he only recorded two strikeouts in his outing against them last week, but he’s still gone over this total in 63.3% of his starts. That gives us -175 odds that he will go over tonight, and that is 20 cents of value on the current price.
