Top MLB No Runs First Inning (NRFI) Odds, Picks & Predictions: Thursday (9/29)

Sep 29, 2022 - 1:58 PM

It’s a getaway day in Major League Baseball, meaning we have day baseball! 20 teams take the diamond today, and the action gets underway at 1:10 p.m. ET with the Royals taking on the Tigers at Comerica Park. Games conclude out west with a divisional clash between the Rockies and Giants.

The betting board wasn’t very attractive today, so I went with my top two No Runs First Inning (NRFI) bets. Here they are:

Miami Marlins vs. Milwaukee Brewers

The Marlins head to Milwaukee, where they’ll open up a four-game set with the Brewers tonight. First pitch is set for 7:40 p.m. ET, and we have a pitching matchup featuring Braxton Garrett and Eric Lauer.

Garrett has made 15 starts this season and comes in at 3-6 with a 3.52 ERA and 1.16 WHIP. Most recently, the southpaw recorded a quality start against the Nationals on Friday. Garrett went 6.0 innings and limited Washington to one earned run on five hits. He picked up the win, and the Fish have now won his last two starts.

Lauer has been a serviceable option for the Brewers this year and comes in at 10-7 with a 3.96 ERA and 1.28 WHIP over 27 starts. He last pitched on Friday against the Reds and gave up two earned runs on five hits and three walks over 2.2 innings. It was a no-decision effort that the Crew won, and they’re now 3-2 in his last five starts.

Lauer has faced this Marlins roster in 30 at-bats and limited them to just six hits (.200). Look for him to take care of this Miami team that ranks 25th in team batting average (.231) and 27th in OPS (.660). This will be the first start for Garrett against the Brewers, so we do not have any head-to-head data. However, he’s been pitching well lately, with a 2.53 ERA over two starts this month. Look for him to bring his best stuff as the Marlins try to spoil the Brewers’ bid for a wild card spot.

Bet: Marlins at Brewers NRFI (-140)

Colorado Rockies vs. San Francisco Giants

The Giants look to break out the brooms tonight as they send Carlos Rodon to the bump. The Rockies counter with Ryan Feltner in this NL West showdown set for 9:45 p.m. ET from Oracle Park.

Feltner hasn’t been having a great year and comes in at 3-8 with a 5.91 ERA and 1.43 WHIP over 18 appearances (17 starts). The right-hander last took the ball on Friday against the Padres and limited them to a pair of earned runs on five hits and a walk over 5.0 innings. Feltner finished with a no-decision in a game that Colorado won 4-3 in extra innings.

Rodon is having a fantastic year in his first season with the Giants. The lefty comes into tonight’s game at 13-8 with a 2.98 ERA (14th) and 1.05 WHIP (16th) over 30 starts. Most recently, Rodon went 4.1 innings against the Diamondbacks and gave up four earned runs on four hits and three walks. He took a no-decision in the 6-5 win, and San Francisco is now 3-1 over his last four starts.

Despite having a tough overall year, Feltner has found success against the Giants. The current San Francisco roster is just 2-18 (.111) against him with a .200 OBP. On the flip side, Rodon has thrown well against the Rockies this season. In two starts against them, the southpaw has posted a 3.60 ERA, and they’re hitting .263 against him. It’s also worth noting that Rodon’s ERA dips to 2.08 when throwing at Oracle Park this year. Let’s ride with NRFI in the Bay tonight.

Bet: Rockies at Giants NRFI (-160)
