Mar 31, 2009 - 8:21 PM FORT MYERS, Florida (Ticker) -- Jason Varitek's three-run home run in the seventh inning ignited a comeback as the Boston Red Sox rallied from a five-run deficit to edge the Tampa Bay Rays, 8-7, on Tuesday in a Grapefruit League contest.

Trailing 7-2 after seven innings, the Red Sox added three runs in the eighth on Nick Green's two-run triple and Angel Chavez's RBI single to win their final home exhibition game of the spring.

At Sarasota, Florida, Brett Gardner, who has won the starting center fielder's job, collected three more hits to raise his spring average to .390 as the New York Yankees defeated the Cincinnati Reds, 6-3.

At Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Chris Duncan smacked a three-run shot and Adam Wainwright allowed two runs over five innings as the St. Louis Cardinals posted a 7-3 victory over the Baltimore Orioles.

At Lee County, Florida, Brian Buscher, Mike Redmond and Matt Moses each collected three hits as the Minnesota Twins outslugged the Pittsburgh Pirates, 12-8.

At Lakeland, Florida, Justin Maxwell, Dmitri Young and Austin Kearns all blasted homers and combined for six RBI, lifting the Washington Nationals to a 7-2 win over the Detroit Tigers.
