Kevin Slowey allowed one run and three hits in five innings, dueling with Zack Duke, who yielded just four hits in five frames.

Adam LaRoche homered for the Pirates, who pushed across a run in the 10th to forge the tie.

At Norfolk, Virginia: Koji Uehara tosses six strong innings and Nick Markakis homered as the Baltimore Orioles topped the Washington Nationals, 6-3.

Uehara allowed two runs and one hit, striking out three and walking one.

Ryan Zimmerman and Lastings Milledge each homered for the Nationals.

At Zebulon, North Carolina: Juan Francisco homered twice, Yonder Alonso added a three-run blast and Dallas Buck struck out six in five innings as the Cincinnati Reds' Class AA Affiliate - the Carolina Mudcats - blasted the parent club, 12-4.

Bronson Arroyo sustained much of the damage for the big leaguers, allowing six runs and seven hits in three innings.

At Jupiter, Florida: Scott Rolen homered and scored three runs and Aaron Hill and Alex Rios also belted shots to lead the Toronto Blue Jays to a 10-4 victory over the Florida Marlins.

At Atlanta: Javier Vazquez struck out four in four perfect innings and Omar Infante homered to lead the Atlanta Braves past the Detroit Tigers, 3-1, at Turner Field.

At Philadelphia: Chris Coste and Jason Donald each drove in a run in the bottom of the ninth and four relievers combined to allow one hit over the final four innings as the Philadelphia Phillies edged the Tampa Bay Rays, 3-2.

At Bronx, New York: Robinson Cano, Hideki Matsui and Cody Ransom homered as the New York Yankees topped the Chicago Cubs, 7-4, in the first game ever at the new Yankee Stadium.

At Flushing, New York: Fernando Tatis had two hits and an RBI and Livan Hernandez pitched three scoreless innings as the New York Mets topped the Boston Red Sox, 4-3, in their first game at Citi Field.

At Memphis, Tennessee: Albert Pujols homered and drove in six runs and Ryan Ludwick added a two-run blast as the St. Louis Cardinals crushed their Class AAA affiliate Memphis Redbirds, 13-1.

At Houston: Brian Moehler allowed two hits and struck out five in five scoreless innings and Hunter Pence drove in two runs to lead the Houston Astros to a 2-0 victory over the Cleveland Indians at Minute Maid Park.
