Report: Mariners get 2B Vidro from Nationals

Dec 14, 2006 - 3:53 AM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Apparently the Seattle Mariners have acquired a veteran bat to help them keep alive innings.

Citing a source high in the organization, MLB.com reported Wednesday that the Mariners acquired second baseman Jose Vidro from the Washington Nationals for outfielder Chris Snelling and righthander Emiliano Fruto.

Seattle general manager Bill Bavasi said last week at the winter meetings that he was looking for a hitter who could keep an inning going.

Vidro is a .301 career hitter over 10 seasons with the Montreal-Washington franchise. He hit .289 with seven homers and 47 RBI in 126 games for the Nationals this past season.
