Beasley's game-winner lifts T'Wolves over Clippers
Nov 18, 2010 - 4:42 AM Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - Michael Beasley hit the game-winning jumper with 2.3 seconds left to lift the Timberwolves to a 113-111 victory over the Clippers at Target Center."I was waiting to see what they were going to do," Beasley said of his game- winner. "I knew what I was going to do and knew if he let me get to the elbow it was trouble for them.
"I was just waiting to see if they were going to come with a double team. I went down and it went in."
Beasley finished with a game-high 33 points and Kevin Love supplied 24 points and 14 rebounds. Corey Brewer added 14 points in a reserve role for Minnesota, which stopped a two-game losing streak.
Eric Gordon led Los Angeles with 30 points and seven assists and Blake Griffin tied a career-high with 26 points and added 17 rebounds for the Clippers, who are still searching for their first road victory in six attempts.
Rookie Al-Farouq Aminu finished with 17 points and DeAndre Jordan added 11 and seven rebounds in the loss.
Beasley converted on a three-point play with 5:48 remaining to put the Timberwolves up 104-97. Love hit two from the line to keep the lead at seven points at 108-101, but L.A. responded with a short 6-0 run capped by a Griffin dunk with 2:50 to play.
Brewer hit a jumper at 1:14 to tie the game at 111, and after Minnesota missed its next three shots, Beasley got his opportunity in the final seconds.
"We got down in the fourth and kept battling," said Clippers head coach Vinny Del Negro. "We just didn't convert at the end there. We had a look at it and missed a couple of offensive rebounds.
"The turnovers hurt us. They scored 26 points off our turnovers, we had a couple careless ones at the end. The guys are battling and statistically we did some good things but the turnovers hurt us."
After a back-and-forth first quarter the teams were deadlocked at 28.
Griffin and Gordon both had 10 points in the second, but the Timberwolves shot 10-of-16 from the field in the quarter to keep the game notched at 61 heading to the locker room.
The teams kept it close in the opening minutes of the third but Brewer's triple at 1:06 gave Minnesota a five-point lead at 87-82. However, Gordon added one-of-two from the line and a layup in the final minute of the quarter to cut the margin to 88-85 heading to the fourth.
