Spurs rip Cavs to post 10th straight win

Nov 21, 2010 - 6:53 AM San Antonio, TX (Sports Network) - Tony Parker led a balanced attack with 19 points and nine assists to help the San Antonio Spurs won their 10th consecutive game, a 116-92 decision over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Tiago Splitter scored 18 off the bench, and Richard Jefferson added 14 for the Spurs, who are off to the best start in franchise history. They haven't won 10 in a row since an 11-game streak from February 11-March 6, 2008.

"This is a good run for us, great run for us, great start," said the Spurs' Tim Duncan. "There's going to be some ups and downs through the season. I think this team is really built on what we did last year, just having guys on the same page right now and feeling comfortable with each other."

San Antonio shot 12-of-25 from three-point range, led by a 4-for-7 performance by Matt Bonner.

Mo Williams scored 21 points to pace Cleveland, which has lost four of its last five.

"Against other teams, you make mistakes and sometimes they don't make you pay for it," Williams said. "But tonight, going into this game, we knew they'll make you pay for your mistakes. They're not going to beat themselves."

Williams netted 11 of his points in the first quarter, after which the Cavs held a 29-28 edge.

But the Spurs took over in the second, which Duncan began with two free throws. Duncan became San Antonio's all-time NBA scoring leader in Friday's win over Utah, passing David Robinson.

Following the foul shots, Manu Ginobili drained a three, and the Spurs widened their lead to double digits before Cleveland rallied late. A Williams jumper had the Cavaliers within four with 1:16 to play, but the Spurs ended the half with a Parker free throw and Splitter dunk to take a 64-57 advantage to the break.

Ginobili scored all of his 13 points in the second quarter.

A Duncan layup and Jefferson three opened the third quarter, and the Spurs led by double digits for the rest of the period. San Antonio held an 89-75 lead moving to the fourth.

Cleveland had one final rally, scoring the first six points of the final quarter to get within eight. However, a Gary Neal jumper touched off a 14-0 run, which Parker capped with two buckets. The shots put the Spurs up 103-81, and they cruised over the final 6 1/2 minutes.
