Raptors rout hapless 76ers by 16
Nov 25, 2010 - 3:05 AM Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Andrea Bargnani scored a game-high 24 points and Reggie Evans pulled down a career-high 22 rebounds to go with 12 points, as the Toronto Raptors rolled to a 106-90 wire-to-wire win over the struggling Philadelphia 76ers.Jerryd Bayless, in his first game since being acquired in a five-player deal with New Orleans, scored 13 points for the Raptors. Jose Calderon added 16 points and nine assists in the club's fourth straight win.
"I was just doing what I had to do," Evans said of his rebounding effort. "People pay good money to see the Toronto Raptors play. They want to see someone work hard."
Andre Iguodala ended with 17 points, eight rebounds and six assists for a Sixers club that has posted an Eastern Conference-low three wins over the first 15 games of the season.
A dominant first quarter for Toronto was highlighted by Sixers forward Marreese Speights taking out an inbounds pass after an Evans layup and throwing it directly to Calderon for another easy deuce and a 17-6 lead.
Bayless' buzzer-beating three made it 33-18 at the end of one quarter.
Fellow newcomer, Peja Stojakovic, netted his first Raptors points with a three-ball for a 58-37 cushion late in the second, which ended with the hosts on top, 62-43.
The Sixers, trailing 87-71 heading to the fourth, cut their deficit to 10 on two occasions in the final stanza but went the final 5:03 without a field goal to come away with the loss.
"We came out with low energy. We started very sluggish and that was my greatest concern," said Sixers head coach Doug Collins, whose team lost an overtime game to New Jersey on Tuesday.
