Griffin, Clippers top Kings for second straight win
Nov 26, 2010 - 7:01 AM Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Blake Griffin posted 25 points and 15 rebounds to help the Los Angeles Clippers take a 100-82 win over Sacramento and start their first winning streak of the season.Eric Gordon scored 28 points for the Clippers, who were coming off Monday's win against New Orleans and improved to 3-13 this season. Los Angeles' only other win outside of this two-game streak is a November 3 defeat of Oklahoma City.
"We did a better job on the glass," said Clippers head coach Vinny Del Negro. "We still had too many turnovers [17], but it's a win and we'll take it."
Carl Landry paced Sacramento with 18 points, while Luther Head added 15. Tyreke Evans shot just 2-of-13 and finished with eight points in the Kings' third consecutive loss.
The Clippers took a 30-25 lead after the first quarter and held a 54-50 edge at halftime, but the game came down to the pivotal third period.
After Head opened the second half with a three-pointer, Los Angeles went on an 15-3 run. Griffin and Gordon capped it with a bucket each, giving the Clippers a 69-56 edge with 6:45 to go.
Los Angeles shot 9-of-13 in the quarter overall and made 12-of-15 free throws, while the Kings made only five of their 15 shots.
"That was a big step backwards, especially in the third quarter," said Kings head coach Paul Westphal. "They hurt us with their penetration. We stopped moving the ball and the momentum shifted."
The third quarter performances allowed the Clippers to take an 84-69 lead into the fourth quarter, and they were in front by double digits the rest of the way.
Game Notes
Griffin posted his third consecutive double-double...LA made 50.7 percent of its shots, but only 2-of-13 from beyond the arc...The Clippers held a 45-35 rebounding edge.
