Bobcats getting healthy again, stop Cavs

Dec 30, 2010 - 6:07 AM Charlotte, NC (Sports Network) - Stephen Jackson scored a game-high 38 points, D.J. Augustin added 28 of his own, and the Charlotte Bobcats topped the Cleveland Cavaliers, 101-92, at Time Warner Cable Arena.

Gerald Wallace finished with nine points and 10 rebounds in his first contest back since missing five games with a sprained left ankle. Nazr Mohammed added eight points for the Bobcats, who have won two straight under new head coach Paul Silas.

Silas took over after former head coach Larry Brown stepped down early last week after leading the team to a 9-19 start.

Ramon Sessions led the Cavaliers with 22 points in a reserve role, Antawn Jamison scored 18, and both Anthony Parker and Anderson Varejao scored nine points for Cleveland, which was without point guard Mo Williams. He missed the game as he recovers from a hip flexor injury he suffered in Tuesday's loss to Orlando.

Cleveland, which has dropped five in a row and 15 of 16 overall, has lost 13 straight on the road.

"Everybody's disappointed," Cavaliers coach Byron Scott said of his team. "We're not taking it lightly, we understand this is disappointing for us now."

Charlotte entered the fourth up 81-67, but after a Parker three at 2:22 the advantage was down to seven, 94-87. Jamison then connected on a layup and three-point conversion to put the game at a manageable 94-90.

However, Jackson hit a deep three on the far end. Varejao made two from the foul line, but Jackson sank four more free throws down the stretch to account for the final margin.

Charlotte pulled away from the opening tip as Jackson and Augustin scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, in the first as Charlotte took a 33-20 into the second. Charlotte held a 57-44 advantage at the half after a back-and-fourth second quarter.

"We got a good lead (in the first half) and didn't have to play catch-up basketball," Jackson said. "Even though [Cleveland] made runs we found a way to win."

The third quarter was a see-saw battle as the Bobcats outscored Cleveland 24-23.

Game Notes

J.J. Hickson scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds in defeat...The Cavaliers finished the month of December 1-14...This is only the second time Charlotte has won back-to-back games this season (November 10-12)...The Bobcats shot 47.4 percent (9-of-19) from beyond the arc, compared to 4-of-22 for the Cavs.
