Griffin's 23rd straight double-double lifts Clippers over Warriors

Jan 9, 2011 - 11:57 PM Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Eric Gordon scored 25 points and Blake Griffin set a franchise record with his 23rd straight double-double, finishing with 23 points and 12 rebounds, as the Los Angeles Clippers defeated the Golden State Warriors, 105-91, at Staples Center.

Baron Davis also registered a double-double with 17 points and 11 assists for the Clippers, who earned a 106-93 victory over Denver on Wednesday and have won four of their last six. Al-Farouq Aminu chipped in with 12 points off the bench in the win.

"It's a process," Griffin said about the Clippers' improved play. "It's all about getting wins. Having Baron (Davis) back is big for us."

Griffin passed Swen Nater for the franchise record for double-doubles. Nater had 22 straight as a member of the Buffalo Braves in 1978.

Dorell Wright led all scorers with 27 points and Monta Ellis ended with 13 points, six assists and five boards for Golden State, which had a brief two- game winning streak halted.

"We got guys in foul trouble and never had a chance to get into a rhythm," Golden State head coach Keith Smart said. "Blake (Griffin) plays with a high energy level. The young guy is going to keep getting better. He's electric."

Gordon and Griffin scored 12 and 11 points, respectively, in the opening quarter to help the Clippers grab a 32-28 advantage after 12 minutes.

Reggie Williams' three-pointer just past the midway point of the second gave the Warriors a brief 44-41 lead. However, Gordon tied it with a three on the Clippers next trip and sparked a 21-4 run to close out the quarter.

Davis drained a pair at the stripe to break the deadlock and Gordon again hit from beyond the arc to give LA a 49-44 lead with 3:46 remaining. Davis finished out the scoring with a triple to put the hosts ahead 62-48 at the intermission.

Ryan Gomes' three-point play put the Clippers up by 22, 80-62, with 4:59 left in the third and Eric Bledsoe made a driving layup in the closing seconds of the period to give Los Angeles a healthy 91-73 advantage heading into the fourth.

Golden State was unable to get within single digits throughout the final quarter as LA cruised to the victory.

Game Notes

Despite the loss, Golden State has won 10 of the last 15 meetings with the Clippers...LA improved to 9-13 at home this season, while the Warriors dropped to 6-16 as the visitor...The Clippers shot 39.5 percent from the field, but made only 4-of-17 from three-point distance...Golden State made 39 percent of its shots and 7-of-22 from beyond the arc...DeAndre Jordan finished with a game-high 13 rebounds to go with nine points for LA.
