Spurs rally past Raptors for 16th straight home win

Jan 20, 2011 - 6:38 AM San Antonio, TX (Sports Network) - DeJuan Blair scored 12 of his 22 points in the third quarter and sparked the San Antonio Spurs to a seventh straight win, a tough 104-95 decision over the Toronto Raptors.

Blair also grabbed 11 rebounds, and Manu Ginobili added 23 points and seven assists for the Spurs, who erased a double-digit halftime deficit to win for the 16th straight time at AT&T Center.

Tony Parker chipped in 17 points and Tim Duncan tallied 10 points and 12 boards in the win.

DeMar DeRozan scored 28 points, but it wasn't enough to stop Toronto's four- game slide.

"We became one dimensional. DeMar (DeRozan) was the only one to score for us. I think they recognized that no one else could score in this game," opined Raptors head coach Jay Triano.

Toronto was surprisingly ahead, 53-42, at halftime and was up by six with four minutes left in the third before the Spurs turned it on.

Antonio McDyess hit a jumper to start a 16-4 flurry, and Blair capped his 12- point frame and the game-altering run with a jumper for a 75-69 cushion.

The Spurs kept their foot on the gas in the fourth, extending a seven-point lead with a 9-2 run. Gary Neal's behind the back pass in transition to McDyess led to a slam, ending the spurt for a 91-77 lead with 6 1/2 minutes remaining.

The Raptors had one late run in them, scoring eight of nine points to cut their margin to 97-91. George Hill, though, hit an open three-pointer in the corner on the next possession and the Spurs stayed in front by a comfortable margin over the final two minutes.

"In the second half, we got back in the game because we played very, very good team defense," Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich said. "People started paying attention and taking some pride in individual and team [defense] and those stops generated offense and that was the ball game."

San Antonio scored the first 10 points of the game, but Toronto answered with a run of its own and tied things at 17-all on a DeRozan layup with 3:48 left.

The visitors were on top 23-22 at the end of the opening quarter and never trailed in the second.

San Antonio last had a 16-game home winning streak from Dec. 11, 2004-Feb. 23, 2005. The Spurs haven't lost at the AT&T Center since a 103-94 setback to Dallas back on Nov. 26. Their 36 wins through the first 42 games of the season is the best start in team history...Jerryd Bayless (ankle) returned from a two-game absence and scored 10 points off the bench for the Raptors, who got 14 points and eight assists from Jose Calderon...Hill netted 14 points for the Spurs...On Friday, the Spurs wrap up a four-game homestand against the Knicks, while the Raptors resume a five-game road trip at Orlando.
