Speights guides Sixers past Raptors

Jan 27, 2011 - 3:22 AM Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Marreese Speights scored a season-high 23 points with nine rebounds, and Philadelphia captured its third straight win with a 107-94 victory over Toronto at Air Canada Centre.

Lou Williams, Jrue Holiday and Andre Iguodala each added 15 points for Philadelphia, which snapped a five-game road losing streak. Holiday dished out 11 assists for the victors.

DeMar DeRozan scored a game-high 29 points to lead the Raptors, who have lost nine straight. Andrea Bargnani scored 17 while Amir Johnson added 15 points in the loss.

Jose Calderon tallied a game-high 13 assists for Toronto.

The game was tied 50-50 at the half, but the Sixers opened the third quarter on a 10-2 run, capped by an Iguodala slam at 9:12. The Philadelphia lead remained around eight until a Williams three-pointer with 4:14 remaining widened the margin to 75-64.

The Raptors responded with a Sonny Weems jumper and Calderon basket to cut their deficit to seven, 75-68, and the Sixers took an 84-77 lead into the final stanza.

After the teams traded baskets to start the fourth quarter, Evan Turner connected with Speights for an alley-oop dunk to start a short 8-3 run that put Philadelphia up 14, 96-82.

The Sixers' lead never fell below eight down the stretch.

"We just wanted to contain DeRozan and Bargnani, they're go-to guys," Sixers forward Elton Brand said. "We came out flat in the first quarter then [Speights] came alive in the second quarter off the bench and gave us a big lift."

DeRozan led the way with 11 points in the first quarter and the Raptors held a 29-20 advantage after the opening 12 minutes. Speights scored 17 of his points in the second quarter, and Philadelphia knotted the game at the break.
