Jackson nets 39, leads Bobcats over Pistons

Feb 3, 2011 - 5:25 AM Auburn Hills, MI (Sports Network) - Stephen Jackson poured in a season-high 39 points, and the Charlotte Bobcats used a key second half run Wednesday to earn a 97-87 victory over the Detroit Pistons.

The Bobcats scored 17 straight points between the third and fourth quarter and snapped a two-game losing streak, finishing their six-game road trip with a 4-2 record.

Kwame Brown had 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Gerald Wallace and D.J. Augustin both scored 10 as Charlotte shot better than 50 percent in the victory.

Detroit saw its losing streak reach four games despite 20 points from Ben Gordon and 16 from Tayshaun Prince.

The Bobcats were coming off back-to-back losses to the LA Clippers and Utah after beginning their road trip with wins against Sacramento, Phoenix and Golden State.

Wednesday's win moved Charlotte to 12-8 since interim head coach Paul Silas took over when Larry Brown resigned on December 22.

"Great road trip," said Silas. "We had a good road trip already, but this was a big win."

Jackson, of course, played a big role. He shot 14-of-26 from the field and was 8-of-10 from the foul line, adding five rebounds, four assists and a steal in the win.

"He did everything tonight. Not only did he score, but he played defense," said Silas. "Anything we asked him to do, he did."

After trailing 44-41 at halftime, the Pistons opened the third quarter on a 15-4 run to take an eight-point lead. But Charlotte responded with eight straight points to tie it -- a run started by Jackson's reverse layup and capped by his three-pointer at the 4:49 mark.

The lead changed hands four times after that, with Brown's dunk and two Augustin free throws in the final seconds giving the Bobcats a 68-65 lead heading into the fourth.

Detroit never led the rest of the way. Charlotte scored the first 13 points of the final quarter to take a 16-point lead at 81-65 -- capping a 17-0 spurt that began late in the third.

The Bobcats led by as many as 18 when three Jackson free throws made it 84-66. The Piston climbed as close as seven points in the final minutes, but never really threatened.

"It's tough because it looked like we had control of the game a little bit, but that's been our Achilles' heel, letting up those big runs," said Pistons forward Austin Daye, who had 11 points off the bench.

The Pistons have also suffered losses to Denver, Miami and New York during their current slump. Their next game is Friday at home against New Jersey...Detroit shot 44 percent.
