Mavericks edge Kings, win 10th straight

Feb 10, 2011 - 8:36 AM Sacramento, CA (Sports Network) - Jason Terry and Jose Barea came off the bench to score 22 and 20 points, respectively, to help the red-hot Dallas Mavericks slip by the Sacramento Kings, 102-100, and extend their winning streak to 10 games.

Jason Kidd scored 14 points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out five assists for the Mavericks, who haven't lost since January 20 at Chicago. Tyson Chandler scored 13 while Dirk Nowitzki had a pedestrian 10 points on 4-of-14 shooting.

Samuel Dalembert notched 20 points and seven rebounds and rookie DeMarcus Cousins added 19 points and 15 boards for the Kings, who have lost four straight. Tyreke Evans nearly had a triple-double with 16 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists, while Luther Head scored 12.

With 2 1/2 minutes left in regulation, Dalembert hit two free throws for a 95-94 Kings lead. However, Dallas got a pair of three-pointers from Terry and Barea to jump out in front, 100-95.

"No matter how many minutes he plays, he plays hard," Kidd said of Barea. "He works hard and you can see the hard work paying off."

Sacramento netted the next three points from the charity stripe, but had a costly technical foul called with 47.8 seconds left. After Evans drained two free throws, Cousins and Chandler got tied up and the referee called a quick double-technical on the two. It was Cousins' second technical of the game, resulting in an ejection.

"I just have to continue to grow," Cousins said. "I shouldn't let emotion get the best of me."

Terry made two free throws for a 102-98 Dallas lead in the final seconds. Omri Casspi added a tip shot with time running out for the Kings to account for the final score.

The Kings finished the first quarter with an 8-1 run. Dalembert scored six points during the burst, including back-to-back mid-range jumpers, and Sacramento carried a 28-20 lead into the second.

Dalembert remained hot with a jumper to start the second quarter and make it a 10-point game.

Dallas fought its way back to tie the game at 43 on Terry's two free throws with 3:25 left in the second quarter. Less than a minute later Terry scored a driving layup to ignite a 13-2 Mavs run to end out the half for a 56-47 lead.

The Kings chipped away at their deficit in the third quarter and pulled within 74-73 heading into the final frame, which was close the whole way.

Game Notes

Dallas is 17-7 on the road and will also face Denver and Houston on its three- game road trip...The Mavs have won eight straight and 16 of 18 over the Kings...Sacramento is just 7-21 at home...The Kings made just 3-of-13 attempts from beyond the three-point line, while the Mavs hit 9-of-25.
