Wade, Heat top Pistons for 8th straight win

Feb 12, 2011 - 5:01 AM Auburn Hills, MI (Sports Network) - Dwyane Wade finished with a game-high 24 points to go along with eight rebounds and seven assists as the Heat had a stellar first half and held on down the stretch, topping the Pistons 106-92.

Chris Bosh added 17 points and 10 rebounds while LeBron James scored 16 with 10 assists and eight rebounds as the Heat won their eighth straight game to kick off a four-game road trip. Mike Miller added 16 points on 3-of-5 shooting from three-point range for the victors.

"We're playing some good basketball," James said. "We're doing it on both ends but offensively we're executing the best we have all year."

Austin Daye paced the Pistons with 18 points. Ben Gordon added 16 points and seven rebounds while Tayshaun Prince scored 11 for Detroit, which lost for the second time in three games.

Miami shot 48 percent from the field in the first quarter -- James, Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Wade each scored six -- and had an 11-point advantage with three minutes remaining. However, the Pistons ended the quarter with a 8-1 run, cutting their deficit to 25-21.

The Heat opened the second quarter with a 10-0 spurt, capped by a pair of Bosh free throws at 10:23 to make it 35-21.

The Pistons trimmed their deficit to as low as seven, 43-36, with a Prince three-pointer at 5:33, but Miami used a 21-5 run to put the game away.

"We allowed them to fuel their fast break tonight," Pistons coach John Kuester said. "That really sucked the wind out of us."

Bosh started the run with a free throw. Miller later buried a three-pointer with just over 2 1/2 remaining and Miami expanded its advantage to 23 with a Eddie House triple in the waning minutes. Greg Monroe's tip-in put the game at 64-43 entering halftime.

"We got out in the open floor, rebounded the ball and got some transition points," Wade said regarding the second quarter. "We kinda blew the game open in that quarter ... We played team basketball."

The third quarter was more of the same as the Heat shot 50 percent from the field and maintained their advantage around 20 throughout, taking a 86-65 lead into the final stanza.

The fourth quarter was never in contention as the Heat lead never dipped below 14.
