Bryant sparkles, Lakers win in Big Apple

Feb 12, 2011 - 6:43 AM New York, NY (Sports Network) - Kobe Bryant shined brightly in the glare of a Friday night game in the Lakers' only regular season visit to New York City, scoring 33 points and grabbing 10 rebounds to lead the Lakers to a 113-96 win over the Knicks at Madison Square Garden.

"We executed well," Bryant said. "We had great spacing, we were able to get penetration and get in the paint. I feel like we rebounded pretty well today as well."

Pau Gasol supplied 20 points and six boards while Lamar Odom added 14 points for the Lakers, who have won the first four of their seven-game road trip.

Amare Stoudemire provided 24 points and 10 caroms and Raymond Felton chipped in with 20 points and seven assists for the Knicks, who have lost two in a row and four of their last five.

"We're not playing real smart, we're not hitting shots, obviously," Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni said. "There were stretches we played pretty well. Kobe definitely took a shot at our game as far as he could."

Bryant connected on 7-of-9 from the floor, including a trio from long range, en route to 19 points and six boards to help the Lakers take a 30-28 lead after the first quarter.

He scored only four points in the second quarter as the Lakers got 12 points from Gasol and six off the bench from Shannon Brown to lengthen their lead to 62-48 at the half.

LA shot 13-for-22 in the second stanza while holding the Knicks to 6-of-19 from the floor and forcing nine turnovers.

The visitors pushed their advantage to 18 less than four minutes into the third before the Knicks ran off nine straight to halve their deficit on a Stoudemire layup with 5:42 remaining.

Bryant and Gasol each dropped in hook shots in the final minute in an 8-2 run to end the quarter that built the LA lead to 85-68.

The Knicks never got closer than 13 in the final eight minutes in falling to the Lakers for an eighth straight meeting over the last four seasons.
