Raptors down reeling Clippers

Feb 14, 2011 - 2:37 AM Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Andrea Bargnani netted 27 points and five other Raptors scored in double figures, as Toronto kept the Clippers reeling with a 98-93 victory.

DeMar DeRozan tallied 17 points, and Jose Calderon and Ed Davis both recorded double-doubles in Toronto's second win over its last 18 games. Calderon had 10 points and 11 assists, and Davis came off the bench to contribute 13 points and 14 rebounds.

Blake Griffin posted his usual 21-point, 15-rebound effort, but it wasn't enough for a Clippers club coming off an historic loss at Cleveland.

"I missed some easy shots. I have to do a better job distributing the ball," Griffin said.

Los Angeles has now lost five of six games to start its 11-game road trip, none worse than Friday's 126-119 overtime loss to the Cavaliers, who snapped an NBA record 26-game losing streak with the decision.

The Clippers looked to rebound against another struggling club Sunday, but Toronto took control in the third quarter.

There were multiple lead changes and 17 ties in the first 27 minutes of play, but none after Sonny Weems made two free throws for a 56-54 Raptors lead with 8:41 to go in the third.

Toronto's lead reached 76-66 when a Davis jumper ended an 8-0 run late in the frame, which ended with the hosts holding a 78-71 advantage.

The Clippers trailed the entire fourth quarter, and failed to pull within one possession when Baron Davis missed a fadeaway with just over two minutes left.

Leandro Barbosa came down and got a runner to fall for a 94-87 cushion, and after a Griffin dunk, Bargnani pulled up from just inside the three-point line and drained a jumper from the top of the key to all but seal the outcome.

"We've had this effort against a lot of teams, but tonight we made shots and played good defense and that was the difference," Calderon said.

An evenly-played first half saw both teams score 24 points in both the first and second quarters.
