Deng, Bulls beat Bobcats

Feb 16, 2011 - 6:45 AM Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Luol Deng notched 24 points while Derrick Rose added 18 points and 13 assists, as Chicago claimed a 106-94 victory over Charlotte at the United Center.

Carlos Boozer had 16 points and nine rebounds for the Bulls, who have won three in a row. Kyle Korver and Taj Gibson scored 15 and 11, respectively, off the bench.

"We are a deep team." Deng said. "That's what has been so great about this year. Our mindset every night is to win."

Chicago center Kurt Thomas contributed six points and five rebounds in his 1,000th NBA game.

Gerald Henderson notched 22 points, while Stephen Jackson added 20 with six assists as the Bobcats had a two-game win streak halted. Boris Diaw chipped in 18 points and Shaun Livingston came off the bench to provide 13 points.

"We didn't rotate quickly enough," Bobcats coach Paul Silas said. "Korver got some wide open looks, it was just one of those nights when it didn't happen for us."

Chicago used a six-point run to go up 19-11 midway through the first quarter. The home team held onto a 28-22 edge through the first 12 minutes.

The Bulls pushed the lead to as much as 11, 38-27, following a Deng trifecta, however, the Bobcats rallied the next eight points. Livingston led the way with four points during the spurt.

Chicago, though, scored the last five points of the half to give them a 52-45 edge going into the locker room.

Charlotte used a seven-point run to tie it at 57 with 7:45 left in the third quarter. Wallace's layup finished the run, but the Bulls responded with the next five points to go in front. They eventually led by as much as 11 in the quarter and held onto a 78-73 lead heading into the final frame.

During the opening minutes of the final quarter, Rose hit two from the line, Gibson had a jam, Deng made a finger roll and Omer Asik's jumper finished an 8-0 run to put Chicago up, 88-75.

The visitors would whittle the lead to as much as eight a couple of times, but never got any closer as Chicago sealed the game from the charity stripe.

Game Notes

Thomas is the 12th active player with more than 1,000 games played...Korver was 5-of-5 from the field and hit all three three-point attempts...The Bulls have won six straight in Chicago...Legendary Bulls teammates Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen were in attendance.
