Randolph, Grizzlies get past Spurs

Mar 2, 2011 - 6:11 AM Memphis, TN (Sports Network) - Zach Randolph finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds as the Grizzlies finished off a home-and-home series with the Spurs, winning 109-93 at FedEx Forum.

Darrell Arthur added 21 points and eight boards in a reserve role, while Tony Allen scored 20 on 8-of-9 from the field for Memphis, which has won three of four.

"We know that losing three games can put us in a hole and winning three games can put us up," Allen said regarding his team's push towards the playoffs. "We have to take advantage of each opponent that comes out way and go from there."

Memphis forced the normally-precise Spurs into 22 turnovers and held a 62-34 margin in low-post scoring.

Gary Neal was the only San Antonio player to score in double digits, finishing with 14 points, while Tim Duncan, DeJuan Blair, Manu Ginobili and Antonio McDyess each added nine points in the loss.

The Spurs won the first game of the home-and-home series 95-88 on Sunday, but have dropped their last two games on the road.

"(The Grizzlies) are a good team and a playoff team," Neal said. "They took us out of our rhythm a bit with their pressure, hopefully we can bounce back tomorrow."

Memphis controlled most of the first quarter, and after Arthur's driving jumper at 1:48 its lead was 28-20. However, the Spurs ended the quarter on a 10-4 run, cutting their deficit to 32-30 after the opening 12 minutes.

The Grizzlies opened the second quarter on a 14-5 run, capped by an O.J. Mayo finger roll layup at 8:03, to lead 46-35. San Antonio was able to trim their deficit to 57-52 with a Richard Jefferson three-pointer just over the final minute, but Randolph and Mike Conley baskets put the Memphis lead at 61-52 entering the half.

San Antonio was held to only 15 points in the third quarter and the Memphis lead reached 78-62 on a Randolph three-point conversion just over the three minute mark. Mayo made the back end of two from the line with 32.2 seconds remaining, giving the Grizzlies an 83-67 lead entering the fourth.

The Spurs starters watched from the bench as Memphis opened up the fourth on a 9-0 run, featuring seven points from Arthur, to widen its lead to a game- high 25. The game was never in contention from there.
