Nets rally to down Clippers in OT
Mar 12, 2011 - 5:22 AM Newark, NJ (Sports Network) - Jordan Farmar and Brook Lopez scored four points apiece in overtime, as the New Jersey Nets rallied from 20 points down to beat the Los Angeles Clippers, 102-98, for their first four-game winning streak in more than two years.Farmar and Lopez finished with 24 points apiece, dominating the end of regulation and also overtime, where they combined to score all of New Jersey's eight points.
Kris Humphries added 19 points and a career-high 20 rebounds, helping the Nets to their first four-game winning streak since January 31 to February 7, 2009.
Blake Griffin and Chris Kaman had 23 points apiece to lead LA and Randy Foye scored 19. The Clippers had a season-long four-game winning streak snapped despite leading comfortably in the first half.
"We just gave it away," said Griffin. "We just didn't play the way we should in the second half."
The lead changed hands three times in the final 16.6 seconds of regulation before Griffin forced overtime by making the first of two free throws with 1.2 ticks left.
Farmar scored 13 of New Jersey's 14 points during one stretch at the end of the fourth quarter, including a driving layup off an inbounds pass where he split two defenders to give the Nets a 92-91 lead.
Griffin beat Humphries with a move to his right hand in the paint, moving the Clippers ahead, but Lopez bested fellow center DeAndre Jordan on a pivot move at the other end to make it 94-93 New Jersey with 3.8 seconds left.
The Clippers went back to Griffin, their Rookie of the Year candidate, for a chance to win in regulation. He drove hard on the right side, collided with Lopez and Humphries and tied the game at 94 with his foul shot.
Lopez opened overtime with a hook shot and the Nets led the entire way. They went ahead by five when Farmar buried a three-pointer to make it 101-96 with 2:27 on the clock.
Trying to come back, the Clippers missed their last five shots, including two three-point tries from Mo Williams and one from Foye.
It was a stunning turnaround by the Nets, who trailed by as many as 20 points twice in the second quarter and were down 51-37 after shooting just 36 percent in the first half.
"We got off to a slow start," said New Jersey head coach Avery Johnson. "We were a little lethargic in the first half."
Turning that around, the Nets opened the third quarter on a 22-6 run to actually take the lead on a Farmar layup midway through. They carried a 68-67 lead into the fourth.
