Anthony scores 40 as Knicks down Hawks for 10th straight win
Apr 4, 2013 - 4:15 AM Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - After matching his career-high with 50 points on Tuesday, Carmelo Anthony poured in 40 points to lead the New York Knicks to a 95-82 win over the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday.Anthony was 17-for-27 from the field, and has gone a combined 35-for-53 over his last two games.
"As long as I just take my time and take advantage of what they gave me I can score," Anthony said. "(If) they are going to play me one-on-one I'll take advantage of that. If they double, we get shots. I just have to stay focused."
J.R. Smith added 19 points and Raymond Felton finished with 14 points for the Knicks, who have won 10 straight. With the win, New York leads the Indiana Pacers by one-half game for second place in the Eastern Conference standings.
Kyle Korver poured in 25 points on 6-of-10 shooting from 3-point range and Jeff Teague added 15 points and nine assists for the Hawks, who lead the Chicago Bulls by one-half game for the fifth spot in the East.
"We played a very hot basketball team. Carmelo is playing at a very high level right now. He's shooting the ball extremely well," Hawks coach Larry Drew said. "I thought there were times that we did defend him well, but he still made shots."
Anthony was hot from the get-go, knocking down five of his first eight shots to help the Knicks build 23-18 lead after the first 12 minutes. He finished with 13 points for the quarter.
Anthony added 11 more in the second, going 4-for-5 from the field. New York shot 50 percent from the floor as a team in the quarter and led 47-40 at the break.
Atlanta managed to take its first lead since the first quarter with just over four minutes to go in the third following a Teague layup and the teams went into the final frame knotted up at 68-68.
