Wizards beat Magic in OT
Mar 15, 2014 - 6:10 AM Orlando, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Bradley Beal pinned a Jameer Nelson fastbreak layup with 1:06 left in overtime and John Wall scooped the rebound and dished to Trevor Ariza, who netted a 3-pointer to put the Wizards ahead and help Washington to a 105-101 overtime win against Orlando on Friday."The biggest play of the game, to me, was Brad hustling down to get the block, and I came back to get the rebound and found Trevor," Wall said.
Wall and Ariza scored 21 apiece with Ariza chipping in 11 rebounds and Wall adding 11 assists for the Wizards, who snapped a two-game skid. Beal netted 20 and Marcin Gortat added 19 points and 14 boards.
Tobias Harris had 21 points and five rebounds off then bench for the Magic, who have lost five straight. Arron Afflalo scored 18, Victor Oladipo had 15 points and six assists and Nelson added 13 points, eight assists and six boards.
"I think we probably would have liked a little more attack and a little bit more aggression to see if the referees will call a foul or not," Magic head coach Jacque Vaughn said.
Two Oladipo jumpers put Orlando up four points 54 seconds into overtime, however, Ariza answered with a 3-pointer. The teams traded the lead seven times until Nelson stole an errant pass by Wall, which led to the Beal block on Nelsons' fastbreak layup effort.
After the block, Beal landed awkwardly and had to be carried to the locker room.
The Magic came within 103-101 with two seconds left, but Andre Miller nailed a pair from the line to seal the deal.
Washington trailed, 67-66, to start the fourth. Oladipo scored the first seven points of the quarter for the Magic to put them ahead, 73-71.
The Wizards trailed by six, 85-79, with just under two minutes on the clock before Wall closed out regulation with an 8-2 run on his own, which culminated with him nailing a trey with 10.6 on the clock to take the game into overtime.
Orlando opened the second half with a 16-5 run to take a 57-49 lead with 5:48 left in the third. Washington responded with a 10-2 surge to close out the quarter.
The Wizards held a 15-point lead, 23-8, with 4 1/2 left in the first quarter, however, Orlando pulled within six as they scored the last eight in the first. Orlando trailed, 27-21, to start the second quarter. Neither team led by more than six in the quarter and the Wizards led 44-41 at halftime.
