Williams and Nets hold off Sixers

Apr 6, 2014 - 6:03 AM Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Deron Williams posted 19 points and nine assists as the Brooklyn Nets survived a late rally to edge the Philadelphia 76ers, 105-101, on Saturday at Wells Fargo Center.

The Nets led by as many as 21 points in the second half but stumbled down the stretch, allowing Philly to pull within a point in the final minutes. Mirza Teletovic, moments after air-balling a similar shot, drilled a 3-pointer from the right wing for a 99-95 margin with 48.9 seconds to play, and Brooklyn hit 6-of-6 from the foul line in the final 30 seconds to hang on for the win.

"I felt it gave us the opportunity to execute on some late-game stuff," said Nets head coach Jason Kidd. ""Guys made free throws and we got stops when we had to."

Mason Plumlee scored 16 points off the bench for Brooklyn, winners in five of six. Joe Johnson and Paul Pierce deposited 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Thaddeus Young paced the Sixers with 20 points, and Carter-Williams had 12 with a game-high 11 assists. Philly, which had won two of four entering the game, has not won back-to-back games since a four-game winning streak from Dec. 29-Jan. 4.

Brooklyn led 81-69 after three quarters but allowed Carter-Williams and the Sixers to come storming back. A transition slam by the prized rookie at 7:38 made it a 10-point game. After Tony Wroten's layup had the deficit down to five, Carter-Williams took it from Deron Williams and fed Elliot Williams for a reverse slam.

"We were trying to come back and win, no matter if they had the bench, the starters, or who they had," said Wroten. "No matter who they had out there, we're trying to win regardless."

Late in the contest, Carter-Williams split two trips to the foul line around a Henry Sims layup late in the fourth quarter and the Sixers ound themselves down by just a point with 1:05 remaining before Teletovic and the Nets responded.

The Nets owned a 27-21 lead after one and 57-42 margin at halftime. Plumlee's alley-oop slam from Johnson early in the third gave Brooklyn its largest lead at 67-46 before Philly chipped away.

Game Notes

The Nets outscored the Sixers 60-40 in the paint ... Hollis Thompson made a career-best 6-of-8 from 3-point range for 18 points for the Sixers. Wroten added 15 off the bench.
