DeMarre Carroll deposited 19 points, Paul Millsap had 13 with nine rebounds and Kyle Korver added 11 points for the Hawks, who have won three of four.
"I think our main focus was defense," said Carroll. "We came into the game really focusing on defense and letting the offense take care of itself."
Jrue Holiday and Ryan Anderson each tallied 20 points for New Orleans, while Tyreke Evans totaled 18 points, six rebounds and six assists in the setback.
The Pelicans have dropped two straight and three of four overall.
Atlanta led 19-15 after the first quarter, then opened the game up by scoring the first eight points of the second. Dennis Schroder scored the first four points before Millsap capped the run with two consecutive baskets.
New Orleans ended up trimming its deficit to five with just over four minutes left. However, the Hawks ended the quarter like they started, scoring eight straight points for a 41-28 lead at halftime.
"We missed a ton of shots," said Pelicans coach Monty Williams. "I thought we got good looks and our guys just missed shots."
Atlanta limited the Pelicans to 11-of-37 (29.7 percent) shooting in the first half, including Anthony Davis' five points on 1-of-6 shooting.
Davis finished the game with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
The Hawks maintained a healthy margin throughout the third, but the Pelicans made somewhat of a charge in the latter stages of the fourth. Atlanta led by as many as 16 early on until John Salmons' 3-pointer cut the deficit to 80-72 with 5:14 remaining.
Evans and Davis each cut the deficit to seven over the next couple of minutes, but the Hawks answered both times. Millsap's three-point play following Davis' free throw made it 90-80 with 2 1/2 to play and the hosts sealed it from the free throw line down the stretch.

Thabo Sefolosha missed his second straight game for the Hawks due to an illness ... New Orleans scored 17 points off 18 turnovers ... Al Horford had 10 points and 10 rebounds in the win ... Atlanta made 50 percent of its shots from the floor.
