Warriors cruise past Hornets

Nov 16, 2014 - 7:37 AM Oakland, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Klay Thompson had 21 points and headed a strong shooting display that carried the Golden State Warriors to a 112-87 rout of the Charlotte Hornets at ORACLE Arena.

The Warriors shot 51.7 percent from the field and made 11-of-26 attempts from 3-point range, with Thompson knocking down 4-of-6 tries from beyond the arc and Harrison Barnes going 3-for-5 in a 17-point effort.

Stephen Curry added 19 points and nine assists for Golden State, which led by as many as 34 in improving to 7-2 on the season.

"We had the opportunity to take advantage of a team, especially at home," said Curry. "When you have a deep lineup hopefully that is going to be the result."

Al Jefferson had 19 points and Brian Roberts scored 17 off the bench to pace Charlotte. Lance Stephenson finished with 16 points as the Hornets concluded a four-game West Coast trip with a third loss.

The Warriors led nearly wire-to-wire, though the game was tied at 22-22 late in the first quarter and Charlotte trailed just 30-27 early in the second after Roberts hit a pair of free throws.

Golden State began to separate midway through the second, however, embarking on a 25-5 stretch that turned a five-point lead into a commanding 64-39 advantage entering the final minute of the first half.

Thompson had 10 points and Curry eight during the huge run, in which the Warriors hit five 3-pointers.

"There are only a few teams in the league that can get hot like that," said Jefferson.

A Gerald Henderson trey just before the buzzer pulled Charlotte within 67-46 at the intermission, but the Hornets failed to gain any more ground in the second half.

Golden State opened the third quarter with a 9-2 burst to end any hopes of a Hornets' comeback. The Warriors' lead stretched to 30 points after Curry sank a reverse layup for an 86-56 lead with under five minutes to go in the period.

Game Notes

The Warriors unveiled slate-colored jerseys that contained sleeves, with the team to wear the uniform for every Saturday home game for the remainder of the season ... Hornets forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist missed a second straight game with a stress reaction in his right foot ... Charlotte swept last year's home-and-home series between the teams and had won seven of its last 10 matchups with Golden State ... Kemba Walker, the Hornets' second-leading scorer on the season, had just eight points on 3-of-14 shooting.
