Pacers rally to snap Cavs' 12-game win streak
Feb 7, 2015 - 5:36 AM Indianapolis, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - An astounded George Hill couldn't believe the circus shot he just hit.All he could do was shrug his shoulders.
Hill's go-ahead four-point play with 1:26 remaining helped the Indiana Pacers to a 103-99 win over the Cavaliers on Friday night, snapping Cleveland's 12- game winning streak.
Kyrie Irving tied up Hill's left hand while he was dribbling around a Roy Hibbert screen at the top of the arc and alertly let one fly with his right hand.
Nothing but net.
Hill connected on the subsequent foul shot and C.J. Miles, who had 16 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter, ripped a rebound away from Iman Shumpert following LeBron James' missed 3-pointer from the left wing.
Miles sunk two foul shots with 53.2 seconds to play and Timofey Mozgov split a pair from the charity stripe at the other end. Hill then made 1-of-2 from the line, but Miles snatched the offensive rebound on the second miss and then connected on 1-of-2 bonus shots for a 99-93 Indiana advantage with 18.3 ticks on the clock.
J.R. Smith sandwiched two triples around a pair of Hill free throws to get the Cavs within two, but Hill hit two game-clinching free throws with 3.7 seconds left.
Hill posted 20 points and seven assists, while David West added 20 points and 13 rebounds for the Pacers, who have won four of their last six games.
"I think with George (Hill) back in the lineup... He pushes the tempo for us, gets us in the right flow," West said.
Irving supplied 29 points and five assists and James provided 25 points, six boards and five assists for Cleveland, which was a win away from matching the franchise's longest winning streak.
James went on a personal 6-0 run to help the Cavs seemingly go comfortably in front. His dunk preceded a pair of jumpers for an 81-72 Cleveland cushion with 8:21 left.
Indiana, though, answered with nine consecutive points, with Solomon Hill's turnaround jumper tying the game at 81-81 midway through the fourth.
Miles and Shumpert traded right corner treys, with Shumpert's staking Cleveland to a 92-91 edge with 1:41 on the clock.
"Late in the game we didn't execute like I believe we're capable of doing. We gave up too many points," James said.
Earlier, the Cavs led 31-27 following a quarter of play. James netted the first 10 points of a 14-4 Cleveland swing during the early stages of the second to help it jump out to a 45-33 spread midway through the frame.
Irving's 30-foot pull-up triple at the first half horn gave the Cavs a 55-47 margin going into the break.
An 8-0 spurt clawed Indiana within four late in the third and Hibbert's jumper in the waning moments of the period trimmed the gap to 70-67 heading into the final frame.
