Cavs beat Wizards in OT in regular-season finale
Apr 16, 2015 - 7:02 AM Cleveland, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Kevin Love scored 19 points, Iman Shumpert and Matthew Dellavedova added 18 apiece off the bench and the Cleveland Cavaliers finished the regular season with a 113-108 overtime win over the Washington Wizards on Wednesday. The Cavaliers trailed late in the extra session before veteran center Brendan Haywood hit a short jumper from Dellavedova. Washington was then whistled for a five-second count trying in inbound at the other end, and Dellavedova hit two free throws to make it a three-point game.
Shawn Marion sealed the win, stealing a pass from Martell Webster with six seconds to play and coasting in for a dunk.
With the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference and a first-round matchup with the Celtics already secured, the Cavaliers (53-29) rested LeBron James. The remaining four starters all played under 19 minutes.
"I'm happy that our team is coming into this time of year after having gone through something," Cleveland head coach David Blatt said.
James hasn't played in eight straight season finales.
The Wizards also went into this one with a light bench, as starters John Wall, Bradley Beal and Paul Pierce were all in street clothes.
Webster led seven Wizards in double figures with 20 points, Rasual Butler scored 17 and Kevin Seraphin had 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Washington (46-36), which finished fifth in the East, will tangle with the Raptors in the first round of the postseason.
"We're excited," Beal said of his team's matchup with the Raptors. "A lot of us wanted that matchup since they beat us so many time in the regular season. We are looking forward to it."
The Cavs trailed by five after three quarters but used a 19-4 run to go in front 93-83 midway through the fourth. Washington battled back, eventually tying it with seven seconds left on DeJuan Blair's jumper.
Dellavedova could have won it in regulation, but his off-balance jumper missed just before the buzzer.
Washington led by as many as 15 points in the first quarter before Cleveland narrowed the gap.
