Clippers crush Nets

Jan 23, 2015 - 6:46 AM Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Blake Griffin had 24 points with six rebounds to lead the Los Angeles Clippers in a 123-84 beating of the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday night.

Griffin was named an All-Star Game starter prior to the game.

"I don't take it for granted. I'm thankful for the fans' votes," Griffin said. "All-Star Weekend is for the fans and I try to put on a show."

DeAndre Jordan finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Chris Paul deposited a season-high 17 assists in the Clippers third straight win.

Mason Plumlee led the Nets with 16 points and Darius Morris added 11 points off the bench for Brooklyn, which has dropped nine of its last 11 games.

Jarrett Jack made a 3-pointer just past the midway point of the first quarter to put the Nets up 17-14. That would be the last advantage they would see for the rest of the evening. Griffin then supplied seven points during a 20-6 run over the final five-plus minutes of the quarter and the Clippers led 34-23 entering the second.

"Everyone played well and our starters set the tone," Clippers coach Doc Rivers. "Our ball movement in thee first half was fantastic. (The Nets) played last night and we jumped on them early."

Los Angeles would continue to pour it on, using both strong defense and efficient offense to turn the game into a rout by halftime.

Paul and Matt Barnes hit consecutive 3-pointers to stretch the Clippers' lead to 61-30 with just over three minutes left in the second.

Brooklyn was held to 6-of-21 (28.6 percent) shooting in the second, including 1-of-7 from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, Los Angeles made over 70 percent of its shots in the frame and took a commanding 70-37 margin into the break.

Griffin had 22 points, Jordan posted 12 points with 11 rebounds and Paul dished out 12 assists in the dominant first half.

The Clippers led by as many as 46 in the second half and sent the reserves out in the fourth to close out the lopsided victory.

"Glad it's over," Nets coach Lionel Hollins said. "We have to compete and play together. Give them some credit for some of our problems."
