Nets edge Warriors on Jack's buzzer-beater

Mar 3, 2015 - 4:57 AM Brooklyn, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Jarrett Jack hit the game-winning shot with just 1.1 seconds remaining, giving the Brooklyn Nets a big 110-108 victory over the Golden State Warriors at Barclays Center.

One of a host of teams battling for the final two playoff spots in the Eastern Conference, the Nets came through with a signature win over the West's top squad after holding off a furious late comeback attempt led by Stephen Curry.

Curry scored 11 of his 26 points during a 12-2 run that knotted the score at 108-108 entering the final minute, but the MVP candidate's reverse layup attempt missed the mark and left his hand after the buzzer to send the Warriors to defeat.

"It's all about being ready," said Jack. "I didn't have a huge game shooting the ball."

Brook Lopez racked up 26 points and Deron Williams added 22 for Brooklyn, which went 10-of-21 from 3-point range and held Curry and fellow All-Star Klay Thompson in check for most of the night.

While Curry was able to overcome some early struggles, Thompson made just 3- of-17 field goal attempts and finished 1-of-9 from beyond the arc while mustering just seven points.

Andrew Bogut posted 16 points for Golden State, but all of them came in the first half.

"They deserved to win," said Warriors coach Steve Kerr. "I'm really proud of our guys... We were right there, we had our chances."

The Warriors appeared out of it when Williams followed Jack's 3-pointer with a short jumper that staked the Nets to a 106-96 lead with four minutes left. But Curry buried triples on three straight possessions around a Jack basket to suddenly bring Golden State within 108-105 with 2:24 to go.

Brooklyn then turned it over on their next two trips down the court, and Harrison Barnes made 1-of-2 free throws in front of Curry's long 2 that tied it with 1:09 remaining.

The Nets gave it away on their next possession as well, but Bogut threw the ball out of bounds on the ensuing trip to give Brooklyn the ball back with 20.6 seconds showing. Jack dribbled off a screen out of a timeout, then drilled a 17-footer with Curry in his face for the deciding points.

Brooklyn led 57-51 at halftime and stayed in front throughout the third quarter behind Williams, who put up 13 points and knocked down three triples during the frame. Curry hit a trey to close out the stanza, though, and Andre Iguodala hit one to open the fourth and cut Golden State's deficit to 86-83.

The Warriors got even closer after Curry drained another 3-pointer to trim the lead to 91-90 with 9:36 left. The Nets had an answer, however, as Thaddeus Young made a pair of treys to start an 8-2 flurry that had the hosts up by seven with eight minutes to go.

Brooklyn built a 33-23 lead after one quarter by shooting a scorching 72.7 percent from the field and getting big efforts from Lopez and Alan Anderson. The two teamed up to hit 10-of-12 attempts while scoring 12 and nine points, respectively, for the period.

Curry and Thompson, meanwhile, were virtually non-factors in the first half, combining for a mere five points on 2-of-11 shooting. Bogut kept the Warriors in striking distance, however, with an 8-of-10 success rate over the initial two quarters.

The big center finished off a 9-2 run with consecutive layups to bring Golden State within 49-47 with four minutes to go in the second quarter. The Warriors failed to score over the final 2:56 of the half, though, and went into the locker room down 57-51 at the break.
