Jazz take down Pistons

Mar 15, 2015 - 6:26 AM Salt Lake City, UT (SportsNetwork.com) - Derrick Favors recorded 26 points to lead the Utah Jazz in an 88-85 win over the Detroit Pistons on Saturday night.

Rodney Hood and Gordon Hayward each had 12 points and Rudy Gobert netted 10 points with 19 rebounds in Utah's fifth straight win.

"(I) was just taking my time (and) taking what the defense was giving me," Favors said.

Greg Monroe led the Pistons with 16 points and Anthony Tolliver added 14 points off the bench for Detroit, which has dropped 10 straight games.

"I think in a game like that if you get stops and are able to run, getting stops and converting those stops into easy buckets," Monroe said.

Both teams had difficulty on the offensive end during the first quarter, and neither could gain much separation as they entered the second tied at 18- apiece.

Detroit led by three late in the second when Hayward slammed home an alley-oop from Dante Exum to start a 12-3 run to close the half. Trevor Booker capped the run and the scoring in the first half with a layup that sent the Jazz into the half with a 49-43 lead. Utah brought a 62-55 lead into the fourth.

Tayshaun Prince canned a 3-pointer to give the Pistons a 69-67 lead with under eight minutes to play, but Hood fired one in from deep moments later to help the Jazz retake command. Exum followed with a layup that made it 74-71 prior to the midway point of the fourth.

Spencer Dinwiddie buried a 3-pointer at 1:57 to cut Detroit's deficit to 82-81. After each team traded a basket, Gobert found a cutting Hayward with a no-look pass that ended with a layup for an 86-83 edge with 37.9 seconds left.

The Pistons got a quick bucket from Monroe before Trey Burke netted a floater that kept Utah in front by three with 13.1 seconds left. Dinwiddie missed a 3- pointer in the closing seconds, then Gobert missed a pair of free throws prior to Dinwiddie's heave from beyond midcourt as the buzzer sounded.
