Heat edge Pacers

Jan 24, 2015 - 5:34 AM Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Dwyane Wade's 13th point of the contest, a free throw with 6.9 seconds left in regulation, was the difference as the Miami Heat nearly blew a large lead but held on to beat the Indiana Pacers by an 89-87 count on Friday.

Luol Deng netted 23 points and Chris Bosh added 19 for the Heat, who had lost two in a row and won for the first time at home since Jan. 4 against the Nets. Chris Andersen totaled four points in 28-plus minutes but recorded a game-high 13 rebounds.

"The way this season is going, I don't care if we won by 20 or half a point. We got the win," Wade said.

Luis Scola came off the bench to post 14 points for the Pacers, who dropped their seventh straight contest. George Hill and CJ Watson each contributed 13 points while David West had 12 with nine boards in the setback.

Miami was up by as many as nine, 84-75, with 4:49 remaining before Indiana decided to make its bid for a comeback. Rodney Stuckey converted a three-point play and West hit a jumper to close the gap to four, then after a Bosh make, Hill hit a jumper, Ian Mahinmi added a free throw and a layup and it was 86-85 with 1:39 to go.

Wade and West traded turnovers ahead of a Mario Chalmers runner which gave the Heat a three-point edge with 52.5 showing. Hill followed by missing from long distance, but Bosh committed a turnover and out of a timeout, Hill's lay-in made it 88-87.

Hill then fouled Wade, who missed his first free throw before hitting the second, and Watson missed a jumper as time expired.

"Lot of heart, lot of fight to battle back in the game down 21. Very proud of that group that did that," said Pacers head coach Frank Vogel.

Deng's nine points helped stake the hosts to a 26-18 lead after one quarter.

The lead swelled to 37-20 just over four minutes into the second after Miami scored 11 in a row including back-to-back shots from Danny Granger and a triple from Shabazz Napier.

Minutes later, a Granger bucket upped the Heat edge to 46-25 and the hosts nursed a healthy double-digit margin through the break at 54-37.

The Heat led by as many as 20 in the third quarter, on a Bosh jumper with 2:48 left, but entered the final period only up by 11 after the Pacers scored the final nine points.

Game Notes

Wade had been fined $15,000 by the NBA on Thursday for making an obscene gesture ... The Heat shot 48 percent from the floor despite converting only 4- of-17 three-pointers ... Both teams are back in action on Sunday as Miami plays Chicago and Indiana travels to Orlando.
