Davis, Pelicans top Lakers

Nov 13, 2014 - 3:53 AM New Orleans, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Anthony Davis scored 25 points with 12 rebounds and six blocks to lead the New Orleans Pelicans to a 109-102 win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday.

Tyreke Evans supplied 19 points with 11 assists, while Jrue Holiday and Ryan Anderson each netted 17 points for New Orleans, which has defeated the Lakers in three of its last four meetings.

"(Davis) had six blocks, that's pretty impressive," said Pelicans coach Monty Williams.

Kobe Bryant led all scorers with 33 points on 10-of-28 shooting and Carlos Boozer added 16 points and six rebounds in the setback.

Los Angeles has lost two straight after snapping a five-game skid, and it has gone 0-for-4 on the road on the young season.

The Pelicans led 51-48 at halftime and opened it up in the third.

Holiday wrapped a 3-pointer and a layup around a Davis jumper to give the hosts a 70-60 lead just past the midway point of the quarter. Davis then closed the scoring in the frame with a layup that staked New Orleans to an 85-72 margin entering the fourth.

"We just did a terrible job defensively," Lakers coach Byron Scott said of the third quarter. "It was probably the worst defense we have played all season (and) preseason."

Austin Rivers and Anderson opened the final stanza with back-to-back 3s, then Evans followed by making 1-of-2 from the line to stretch the lead to 20. The Pelicans led by as many as 23 in the fourth before Los Angeles closed the final 3:22 on a 14-1 run.

"We'll address that," Williams said of the run to end the game. "I don't want to rain on the parade because it is tough to win, but we will address that (Thursday)."

Bryant hit three straight 3-pointers prior to Jordan Hill ending the first quarter with a jumper that gave the Lakers a 25-23 lead.

A 10-0 run late in the second, highlighted by a thunderous dunk from Davis off a feed from Evans, helped the Pelicans to a three-point lead at the break.

Jeremy Lin tallied 15 points and Wesley Johnson added 10 for the Lakers ... Eric Gordon and Holiday each had five assists ... New Orleans shot 45-for-82 from the floor and outrebounded LA, 44-38 ... The Pelicans owned a 60-34 edge in the paint and outscored their opponent 18-10 on the fastbreak.
