Oladipo's late heroics lift Magic over Heat

Dec 30, 2014 - 3:43 AM Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Victor Oladipo was solid down the stretch at both ends of the floor to help the Orlando Magic to a 102-101 win over the Miami Heat on Monday.

Oladipo tied the game with under a minute left, then his free throw broke that tie in the closing seconds before he had to lock down on Dwyane Wade's potential game-winner at the buzzer.

Nikola Vucevic paced the Magic with 26 points and nine rebounds, while Oladipo netted 22 points. Orlando snapped a 10-game losing streak to the Heat, which included a six-game skid in Miami.

"It's reinforcing to the guys, keep playing and doing the right things and those things will add up," said Magic coach Jacque Vaughn.

Wade went for 25 points in the Heat's third loss in four games. Danny Granger had 21 points off the bench and Chris Bosh returned from an eight-game absence with a calf injury to score 20 points with eight boards.

Oladipo followed a Tobias Harris jumper with a layup to tie the score at 101-101 with 43.1 seconds left.

Wade then missed a jumper, which gave Orlando a chance at the lead in the closing seconds. Out of a timeout, Oladipo ran the clock down and drove the lane on Norris Cole. He was fouled in the act and made 1-of-2 from the line to move the visitors in front.

Wade tried to answer, but it was off the mark as both Oladipo and Elfrid Payton pressured Wade's missed jumper as the buzzer sounded.

"We have to work a little bit better on execution," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said of the final play.

Orlando picked up right where it left off the third quarter to open the fourth. An 8-3 run gave it an 85-80 lead early in the final frame.

Wade's personal 7-0 run gave Miami an 88-87 edge with over seven minutes to play in the contest.

The game remained tight the rest of the way. Wade drove the lane and kicked out to a wide open Granger, who buried a 3-pointer at the top of the key for a 101-97 lead with 1:38 left. Harris answered at the other end with a tough jumper to cut Magic's deficit in half.

The Magic led by as many as eight in the first quarter but brought just a 26-25 edge into the second. Miami led 53-50 at the half.

The Heat scored the first seven points of the third quarter, but Channing Frye knocked down two treys during an 11-2 run to close the frame and tie it at 77-77.
