Wade, Heat top Kings in OT
Mar 8, 2015 - 6:49 AM Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Dwyane Wade scored 10 of his 28 points in overtime, helping the Miami Heat beat the Sacramento Kings 114-109 on Saturday.Wade sat out Friday's loss at Washington with a sore right hip, but played a chief role in leading the Heat to a crucial victory. With the win, Miami tied Indiana for the final two playoff spots in the Eastern Conference. The two teams are percentage points ahead of ninth-place Charlotte.
Tyler Johnson had 24 points, six rebounds and six assists for the Heat, who overcame a 16-point deficit. Michael Beasley netted 18 points and Mario Chalmers added 12 with seven assists.
"We're fighters, man. We've been unlucky this season with injuries but guys are going to continue to fight," Wade said.
Sacramento's DeMarcus Cousins posted 27 points and 17 rebounds, but fouled out in the extra session. Rudy Gay also scored 27 points for the Kings, who have lost 13 straight to the Heat in Miami.
The game went to overtime when Gay missed a layup with the right hand and Cousins couldn't convert the putback.
An Andrew Miller layup gave the Kings a 104-103 lead with two minutes to play in the overtime, but Chris Andersen made two free throws and Johnson drained a 3-pointer from the right wing as the shot clock expired for a 108-104 Miami lead.
Wade then made six free throws to seal the win.
Sacramento hit from long range early, making six of its seven 3-point attempts in the first quarter.
Gay netted 10 points in the opening 12 minutes and hit a step-back jumper to put Sacramento up 48-37 with 4:18 left in the second quarter. The Kings led 59-44 just before halftime after Ben McLemore buried a trey.
Cousins followed a Gay 3-pointer with a layup to push Sacramento's lead to 74-58 with under five minutes to play in the third quarter.
"I thought we played pretty well in the third quarter," said Kings coach George Karl.
