Brow Beaten: Davis' 3 stuns Thunder
Feb 7, 2015 - 5:37 AM Oklahoma City, OK (SportsNetwork.com) - Anthony Davis hit a buzzer-beating 3- pointer to give the New Orleans Pelicans a thrilling 116-113 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday.Davis finished with 41 points and 10 rebounds, Tyreke Evans had a triple- double with 22 points, 16 assists and 10 rebounds and Ryan Anderson gave 17 points for the Pelicans, who avenged a loss at home on Wednesday to the Thunder to win for a third time in four games.
Russell Westbrook scored a career-high 48 points with 11 assists and nine rebounds, Kevin Durant gave 27 points while Serge Ibaka and Steven Adams each had 10 for the Thunder, who had won their previous two.
"We don't feel sorry for ourselves," said Westbrook. "We put too much time and effort into this to feel sorry for ourselves. We'll come back tomorrow and it will be back to work."
Davis had made a pair of free throws with 2.8 seconds to play that gave the Pelicans a three-point lead, and Westbrook missed a quick 3-pointer at the top of the circle, but he was fouled by Quincy Pondexter and calmly made all three from the line with 1.2 seconds left.
Following a timeout, Tyreke Evans found Davis and he buried his first 3- pointer of the season as the buzzer sounded for the win.
Davis was 0-for-8 from 3-point range on the season, and it was only the third 3 in his career.
"We knew what was at stake before the game," said Davis. "Coach put the board up there and it said, "If you don't want to be great, step aside and let someone else be great.'"
A 10-0 run from the Thunder early in the first led the team to an 11-point lead, and they eventually took a 33-29 advantage into the second quarter.
Oklahoma City continued to lead through much of the second quarter and held a 56-50 advantage with a few seconds remaining, but Evans buried a 3 near the buzzer to make it a three-point game at the half.
The lead went back and forth through the third quarter, but the Pelicans scored the final nine points of the frame to take an 83-81 lead into the fourth.
New Orleans led by as many as seven in the final frame, lastly when Davis put in a shot for a 107-100 lead with 2:10 to play, before the Thunder rallied.
