Parker powers Spurs past Kings
Nov 29, 2014 - 7:38 AM San Antonio, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Tony Parker finished with a game-high 27 points and eight assists to lead the San Antonio Spurs to a 112-104 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Friday.Kawhi Leonard scored 19 points on 4-of-6 shooting from 3-point range with four blocked shots and Tim Duncan supplied 18 points and eight rebounds for the Spurs, who won their sixth straight game.
"Tony today was fantastic, well in the previous game too," San Antonio guard Manu Ginobili said. "He has been great. He has had a couple ups-and-downs, but of course he is the player we need to play like that to have a chance. We count on him, and when he is that involved and he is passing the ball like that, for everybody it is a very good thing."
Rudy Gay paced the Kings with 23 points, eight assists and eight rebounds and Ryan Hollins and Darren Collison each chipped in 15 points apiece for the Kings, who defeated the Spurs, 94-91, on Nov. 15.
San Antonio increased its lead to 15 points four minutes into the third after Danny Green hit a 3-pointer and Parker scored four straight points to make it a 76-61 game.
Derrick Williams cut the deficit to eight points on a driving jumper with under a minute to play in the third and the Kings trailed 88-80 heading into the final stanza.
Boris Diaw's reverse layup capped an 8-2 spurt as the Spurs went up 100-86 with 7:06 to play, but back-to-back treys from Gay and Ben McLemore kept the Kings within striking distance.
Sacramento used an 8-2 run to make it a 109-102 contest with 52.4 seconds to play, but Parker kicked out a pass to Leonard, who calmly drained a 3-pointer with 28.9 seconds left to put the game out of reach.
Neither team led by more than a basket until Gay's driving bank shot gave the Kings a 14-10 lead with 6:04 to play in the first quarter, but Green drained a 3 and Duncan split a pair of free throws to tie the game back up.
Parker's trey at the buzzer closed the opening stanza with the Spurs ahead by a 26-22 score.
Green netted a shot from beyond on a Diaw dish to ignite a 6-0 run that gave San Antonio a 36-29 lead with 8:16 remaining in the first half. Duncan made three foul shots and Matt Bonner knocked down a shot from beyond with 13.9 seconds left to give the Spurs a 61-51 advantage heading into halftime.
