Wizards cruise past Magic

Feb 10, 2015 - 5:06 AM Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - Marcin Gortat scored 14 points with 14 rebounds to help the Washington Wizards in a 96-80 win over the Orlando Magic on Monday night.

John Wall nearly deposited a triple-double with nine points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds for the Wizards, who have won two straight after a season-high five- game losing streak.

"Everybody was contributing," Gortat said. "John was aggressive. John has a lot of energy recently, that's why he was rebounding. Everybody was helping so that's good."

Rasual Butler paced Washington with 15 points and Nene added 14 points in the win.

Evan Fournier came off the Orlando bench to score a game-high 18 points and Nikola Vucevic supplied 14 points and eight rebounds in the setback.

"Give them credit. That is what they do every night, They outwork you, outrebound you, basically outplay you," Fournier noted.

The Magic have lost 12 of their last 13 games and are 1-2 under interim coach James Borrego.

Nene scored six points in the early going as Washington jumped out to a 9-0 lead. The Magic worked their way back to within four, but a Kris Humphries basket minutes later pushed the margin into double digits.

Washington led 24-16 after the first quarter and quickly built a 12-point lead early in the second. Orlando went on a 13-5 run later on to cut its deficit to two before the Wizards scored the final six points of the half for a six-point lead at halftime.

Vucevic opened the second half with a hook shot, then Wall, Garrett Temple and Paul Pierce each canned a 3-pointer before Gortat contributed a basket as the margin reached 54-37.

Drew Gooden closed the third quarter with a three-point play that was part of a 9-0 run for Washington that gave it a 74-54 lead entering the fourth.

The Wizards took their foot off the gas in the final frame and cruised to their eighth straight win in the series.
