Raptors top Sixers, snap 5-game slide
Mar 3, 2015 - 4:08 AM Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - DeMar DeRozan had a season-high 35 points with nine rebounds and five assists as the Toronto Raptors defeated the Philadelphia 76ers 114-103 on Monday night.Former Sixer Lou Williams netted 21 points off the bench for the Raptors, who snapped a season-high five-game losing streak.
"I don't care who you are, it's hard to win in this league," Toronto coach Dwane Casey said. "I thought we had it tonight."
Ish Smith posted 19 points and nine assists off the pine and Nerlens Noel added 17 points and seven boards for Philadelphia, which has dropped seven of its last eight contests.
"I'm so proud of his evolution and development," Sixers coach Brett Brown said of Noel.
The Sixers never led in the second half, but pulled within one on three occasions.
Smith's driving layup got them within 69-68 with 4:25 remaining in the third quarter, but the Raptors answered with an 11-3 run and were never challenged again.
Terrence Ross jump-started and capped the surge with 3-pointers to stake Toronto to an 80-71 advantage.
The Raptors took an 83-76 margin into the fourth and Philadelphia never trimmed the gap below seven in the final frame.
A pair of Thomas Robinson baskets late in the opening period cut Philadelphia's deficit to 26-22 following a quarter of play and two late second quarter free throws by Williams gave the Raptors a 55-49 cushion at the break.

The Raptors have won eight straight in this series, including four in a row in Philadelphia ... The Sixers visit the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday, then play five straight at home ... Philly waived recently acquired center JaVale McGee Monday. It acquired the 7-footer and Oklahoma City's protected 2015 first-round pick from the Denver Nuggets on Feb. 19.
