Leonard, Spurs top Raptors
Mar 11, 2015 - 4:57 AM San Antonio, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Kawhi Leonard had 24 points, 11 rebounds and five steals as the San Antonio Spurs defeated the Toronto Raptors 117-107 on Tuesday night.Tony Parker posted 23 points and nine assists for the Spurs, who have won six straight on the heels of a four-game losing streak.
Tim Duncan, who left with an elbow injury, provided 12 points and 13 boards in the triumph.
Kyle Lowry supplied 32 points and five helpers, while Amir Johnson added 16 points and 14 boards for Toronto, which has dropped four consecutive contests and nine of its last 10.
"We've literally been getting our (behind) kicked," Lowry said.
After a Lou Williams jumper pulled the Raptors within 21-17 late in the first quarter, San Antonio extended its margin by embarking on a 20-6 run that bled into the second.
Leonard's dunk in the final second of the opening frame made it 28-17.
Green netted 10 points and knocked down a trio of 3-pointers during the surge, which was capped on a four-point play for a 41-23 advantage at the 7:44 mark of the second.
The Spurs led by as many as 22 in the frame before DeMar DeRozan's jumper at the buzzer cut the deficit to 61-41 heading into the break.
The spread reached 26, 71-45, after Leonard slammed home a Duncan alley-oop pass with 7:08 to go in the third.
Toronto, however, responded with a 24-8 burst, with a DeRozan three-point play concluding it to claw the Raptors within 82-71 in the waning moments of the stanza.
Matt Bonner knocked down a trey at the other end in the final second to up the margin back to 14 heading into the fourth.
DeRozan split a pair of free throws trim the gap to 100-94 with 3:44 to go, but the Raptors never got any closer.
Green finished off a 7-0 spurt with a triple to increase the cushion back to 107-94 with 2:12 to play and the Spurs coasted to the victory from there.
"I don't want to take away from the win, it was a great win against a great team, but we should have finished the game before," Parker said.
Game Notes
San Antonio has won 19 consecutive games in March ... The Spurs wee 11-of-18 from beyond the arc and shot 48.2 percent (41-of-85) from the field ... DeRozan finished with 21 points.
