Herrmann, Roy receive NBA Rookie of the Month honors

Apr 3, 2007 - 12:19 AM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Walter Herrmann and Brandon Roy were named the NBA's top rookies.

Herrmann, a 6-9 forward of the Charlotte Bobcats, was named Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month for the first time on Monday.

The 27-year-old Herrmann, who was signed as a free agent by the Bobcats on September 11, is a former Player of the Year in the Spanish ACB League and member of the 2004 Argentinean Olympic Team that won the gold medal.

Over his last nine games, Herrmann averaged 14.8 points and connected on 59 percent from the field. He also posted double-digit scoring in nine of the 13 games he appeared during March.

Roy was honored as the West Rookie of the Month for the third consecutive time.

The sixth overall pick, Roy started all 14 games played this month and led all rookies in scoring (18.4), assists (4.8) and minutes (38.1).

The 6-6 swingman scored in double digits in each game played during March, including five games of 20-plus points.

Other nominees were Boston's Rajon Rondo, Chicago's Tyrus Thomas and Portland's LaMarcus Aldridge.
