Gordon, Daye lead Pistons over Bucks in OT
Oct 9, 2010 - 3:12 AM AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) -- Detroit coach John Kuester would have preferred to get this victory over with sooner."Just what you want in a preseason game, right?" Kuester said. "Overtime."
Luckily for Kuester, the Pistons bounced back after blowing a five-point lead in the final minute of regulation to beat the Milwaukee Bucks 115-110 on Friday night.
A typical preseason game sees both teams using around 15 players, but the Pistons and Bucks each had just 10 due to injuries and other absences.
Richard Hamilton missed the game after the birth of his child, while Tracy McGrady and Andrew Bogut were both rested. Eight players sat out with injuries.
"We were short-handed, so we did a lot of experimenting with lineups and we had to play a few guys a lot of minutes," Kuester said. "Our young guys did a great job of coming through for us."
Austin Daye led Detroit with 21 points, including a key jumper in the extra period.
"I felt comfortable out there, and Will Bynum was getting me the ball in the right spots," said the second-year forward. "Part of my scoring was just being out there for 25 minutes, but I also want to be more aggressive this season."
Brandon Jennings, Chris Douglas-Roberts and Ersan Ilyasova all had 18 for the Bucks.
"We did a lot of good things tonight, but our defense wasn't good," Milwaukee coach Scott Skiles said. "We weren't getting enough effort, and we weren't active."
Milwaukee led 77-72 going into the fourth quarter, but the Pistons answered with a 18-5 run to start the period.
Detroit led by five in the final minutes, but Earl Boykins hit two straight shots, including a 3-pointer to force overtime. The Pistons won the game with a 7-0 run in the extra period.
Rookie Larry Sanders had 12 points, nine rebounds and five blocked shots in 32 minutes for Milwaukee.
"That was impressive, because he doesn't really know what he's doing out there," Skiles said. "He's doing everything on instinct, so he'll get even better once he learns how to position himself."
