NBA Game Summary - Minnesota at Orlando

Nov 4, 2010 - 4:51 AM Orlando, FL (Sports Network) - Dwight Howard scored 18 points, pulled down 16 rebounds and blocked eight shots as Orlando took control early and never relented in thoroughly dismantling Minnesota, 128-86, at the new Amway Center.

Vince Carter added 20 points and seven assists while Ryan Anderson and Brandon Bass chipped in with 19 apiece as seven players reached double figure scoring for the Magic, who improved to 2-1 on the young season.

"It was a total team effort, we did a great job on offense moving the ball and played well defensively, too," Orlando forward Rashard Lewis said. "We needed that win especially after losing to Miami and getting cancelled last night. We put them away early so it was good that everybody got some minutes because we're going to need that experience when we play against the top teams."

Kevin Love totaled 22 points and nine boards for the Timberwolves, who suffered the most lopsided loss in team history to fall to 1-4 on the season.

Corey Brewer added 12 points and yanked down five rebounds for the visitors, who have dropped 15 straight on the road dating back to last season.

Anderson hit three three-pointers and Carter added nine points of his own to guide the Magic to a 37-18 lead after the first quarter during which the hosts made 14-of-23 from the floor while holding the Wolves to 6-of-23 shooting.

Marcin Gortat's dunk capped a 21-2 Magic run to turn a three-point deficit into a 30-14 lead and complete control of the contest with 1:59 left in the opening stanza.

The hosts steadily increased their advantage in the second quarter and twice led by as many as 35, the second coming on a Bass dunk that extended the advantage to 64-29 with 4:44 to play before intermission.

Carter's three-pointer from the left corner with 2.2 seconds left made it 78-45 and set the franchise record for points in a first half. Orlando knocked down 9-of-20 from beyond the arc in the first 24 minutes en route to its record-setting performance.

Howard's free throw with 1:41 left in third got the Magic to the century mark and gave the home team a 100-59 lead. The lead swelled to 42 on five separate occasions in the fourth period.

"We just have to get better," Minnesota coach Kurt Rambis stated. "We have to find ways to play hard and get better. We're a young, inexperienced team. Look at all the young, inexperienced teams, they all go through their growing pains. It hurts, it's painful but you have to go through it."
