Nuggets and Mavs battle in Big D
Nov 6, 2010 - 2:45 PM (Sports Network) - The Denver Nuggets kick off a three-game road trip in north Texas on Saturday by visiting the Dallas Mavericks. The Nuggets fell to the Mavs in Denver on Wednesday when Dirk Nowitzki scored 13 of his 35 points in the fourth quarter, and Dallas escaped the Pepsi Center with a 102-101 win over Denver after Carmelo Anthony missed a potential game- winner at the buzzer.
Already without forwards Kenyon Martin and Chris Andersen, who are both out after offseason knee surgeries, Denver lost center Nene before that game with a groin injury.
"To see that shot rim out was tremendous for us," Mavs guard Jason Terry said.
The Nuggets bounced back last night, handing the LA Clippers a 111-104 setback when Anthony netted 30 points and had six assists to pace Denver.
Al Harrington added 18 points and eight rebounds, and Arron Afflalo scored 16 for the Nuggets, who have alternated wins and losses through its first five games.
"We had a really good third quarter from the standpoint of scoring (and distributing)," said Nuggets head coach George Karl. "The fourth quarter was kind of a shootout, but it's a win."
Denver will also face Chicago and Indiana on its trek.
The Mavs, meanwhile, haven't been in action since their win over the Nuggets. Caron Butler aided Nowitzki in that one by scoring 16 points, including the go-ahead three pointer down the stretch, and Terry added 20 thanks to a 4- for-5 effort from behind the arc for Dallas, which has won three of four to start the year.
Nene is questionable for tonight's rematch.
The Mavericks have won three of their past four meetings with the Nuggets, including the nail-biter earlier in the week.
